Would you mind showing me a picture of your downstairs toilet, please?

I'm having an old out-building converted to part of the kitchen with a downstairs toilet coming off.

It'll only be about 500-600mm wide (the width of a sink with a bit either side) and the toilet and sink will be opposite each other with the sliding door in the middle.

It's months away yet but I'm after inspiration. Should I tile all over? Should I tile just behind the sink and toilet and paint the rest? Or wall paper the rest? What colour should I paint it? Or what wallpaper should I use?

Our kitchen is quite modern so although I'd love to go for an ornate, luxury, French-style feel, I think I'll have to hold back.

I've been in pinterested. I'm addicted but also slightly overwhelmed. I need 'real' examples.

Please, lovely people of MN, show me your toilets!!

thanks!

There's a sparkly leaf on the white and blue paper....I cannot decide if it is de trop or not. ;)

I really like the idea of the chalkboard magnetic paint from travailtotravel ...I think that might be my new stolen idea!

Cbigs here you go! Sparkle a-go-go! Cheap as chips too. www.wallpaperdirect.com/mobile/products/albany/vibration/128520

Kurtsey. You could have the proud peacock in both rooms but with different accent colours/accessories?

TremoloGreen · 08/06/2016 22:46

Well I shan't post mine again, it's really vile at the moment, but I am enjoying this thread for inspiration!

Those of you with concealed cisterns or wall hung loos, did anyone have a 90 degree bend in the soil pipe? That's the way our plumbing is currently and it's all in concrete so don't want to move it. I don't know if this arrangement is possible.

KurtseyAllslop · 09/06/2016 09:52

cosmic Oh that's a really good idea.

I could go mustard yellow for the downstairs toilet and then perhaps orange for the study.

I'm not sure about the study. We'll have all out millions of books all along one wall so I don't know if an accent colour will be slightly drowned out by the multiple colours of the spine of our books. I might actually go for grey walls and white furniture in the study. Not sure yet. That'll be a different thread!!

I don't upload photos of my home Wink
But I love you name OP.

Not sure about mustard in a loo. What if you were feeling not quite the thing? It wouldn't help.

I hate downstairs showers. I was delivering leaflets a few weeks back and as I struggled to open someone's rather stiff letter box I saw a nude man emerging from the shower in the hall. Just a glimpse, but enough to remind me that halls are not the place for showers. Actually they're not a good place for loos, either, as there can be embarrassing odours lingering just when someone turns up at the door.

icklekid · 09/06/2016 10:24

Give me a few weeks and can share ours! We are converting under stairs cupboard and also putting a washing machine in so toilet room will be tiny! We have one of the sink and toilet in one things. It will be cream/grey with this mirror hopefully will be petit but pretty!

KurtseyAllslop · 09/06/2016 10:33

RhodaBull I'm not too keen on downstairs showers either. Even if we did go for one there's no way someone could see nudey-emerging people through the letter box! I can imagine that was quite traumatic for you!

icklekid I look forward to seeing your finished product. That mirror is lovely!

Ha jaffy I love yours! we got rid of our downstairs loo because you could open the fridge and dishwasher whilst sitting on it can you think of anything more revolting?

KurtseyAllslop · 09/06/2016 10:45

MrsMarigold That's why we're making part of our outhouse into a utility room so there's 'something' between the main kitchen and the WC.

Slightly off topic, but about the books in the study, I love it when the spines are colour ordered.

didireallysaythat · 09/06/2016 21:46

Tremolo yes we've got a right angle but hope to box it in or box up and make a shelf (somewhere to stick the loo roll and perhaps stick a sink).

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 09/06/2016 22:17

i was inspired to get the buggerybollocks on with it today....I have bought cut and "dry fitted" all the tongue and groove...up to a height of 1200mm so there's a splashback too.

I miscalculated on the tongue and groove though and bought double what I needed.

But surprisingly you can get 5 packs of 2400mm panelling in a Mini Cooper, if you angle it right.

poochiepants · 12/06/2016 14:25

Did this for a client in NZ years ago - had to use existing sanitary ware, but we ripped up the horrific grey stone in the hallway and toilet, and replaced with engineered wood running flush to the mosaic tiles that covered the floor and ran about half way up the wall. Looked way better than these snaps.....

So much grout to keep clean on that mosaic one!

Turbinaria · 12/06/2016 17:44

If space is really tight I'd recommend a japanese toilet with basin on top the water runs into the cistern and is used to flush the loo so Eco as well.

Refurbishment finally (sic) booked in to start 4th Jul 2016, also and on a very small downstairs WC. Im spending hours trawling through tromp d'oeil posters for behind the door, which will be in front of the loo

Currently torn between a window opening out over a Mediterranean scene or a alabaster statue in a niche in the wall. Also wondering whether its ok to have mirrored doors on wall cabinets above the loo. Well above waist level , natch.

Not posting ours cos it's scummy and well overdue a makeover! When I do it, I'm having dark grey or blue panelling to halfway up, and then a fab wallpaper on the top like above. Although my choices change almost weekly Grin

Not that it's going to happen anytime soon!

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 21/06/2016 11:27

I love that fox wallpaper.

icklekid · 28/06/2016 13:10

I know this is a bit of an old thread but thought I would come back and add my newly finished downstairs loo. Tiny but perfectly formed!
