We're planning our kitchen at the moment- I want a Quooker tap but dh thinks they're a waste of money.

If you have one - would you recommend it??

Had a Quooker installed last week in our new kitchen. Love it already. We have ours by the hob (as opposed to the sink)

Chloe1984 · 12/06/2016 20:46

We have one at work but it's manky with limescale and spits hot water everywhere and takes 30 seconds to fill a mug. I'm guessing it needs some kind of regular maintenance!

I'd never get one at home, I love my Kitchenaid kettle too much, I de-scale that weekly so it's as new.

PlaymobilPirate · 12/06/2016 22:06

Oh no - has anyone had one at home for ages to compare how they last over time??

I've had one for 3 and a half years on a hard water area, never had any issues or done any maintenance. Had to do some hard negotiating with DH to get it but it was definitely worth it. I'm not gadgety at all but I absolutely love it.

PlaymobilPirate · 12/06/2016 22:25

moreshit is yours a Quooker??

We have a Franke one (hot, cold and boiling) I'm afraid we didn't shop around so can't say whether it's better or worse than other brands but we're in a very hard water area and 6 months in have not needed any maintenance on it.

It is one of my favourite things in the kitchen, as well as being a kettle for hot drinks etc, we use it all the time to speed up cooking of anything we want to boil. The few minutes off each task for not needing to build the kettle are amazing. Only thing is I'd find it very hard to go backroad normal kettle - I don't think I have the patience to wait for one to oil any more.

We also have one (a zip tap) in my office but seems that is nowhere near as good as it goes out of order lots. Not sure if that's the brand or if it's simply got too many people using it and doesn't have the capacity.

Arguments for getting one for home... While they are pricey, over time you spend less on fuel as you only boil the water you use (on our type anyway) and for the same reason they a more environmentally friendly...

originalusernamefail · 12/06/2016 22:53

Do the taps have any safety lockouts? I'm a sucker for a kitchen gadget but I have two small children and a DGM with dementia so I would be worried about someone accidentally using it to wash their hands Shock.

agapanthii · 12/06/2016 22:57

I've had my quicker for 4 years, no problems at all. We have a zip tap at work and it's feeble in comparison. I would never go back to a kettle.

agapanthii · 12/06/2016 22:58

Quooker , blinking auto correct!

BrianBlowsBubbles · 13/06/2016 05:01

Original - yes I would like to know about that too. My DC are old enough to be told not to touch, more worried that someone will absent mindedly use it - or visitors.

Pagwatch · 13/06/2016 06:01

We have had one for a couple of years.m
Needs no maintainace. Works perfectly. Bloody useful for cooking things like pasta because you simply fill a pan with already boiling water. Looks great.

It's not possible to burn yourself unless you try really hard. There is a mechanism to turning it on where you have to push and twist. It's incredibly easy but it absoloutely isn't just like turning a tap so you can't absently burn yourself.

MurphysChild · 13/06/2016 06:08

I do, had it for 5 years now and wouldn't do without it. I never have to wait for a pan to come to the boil, I use it for all hot drinks and I work from home so used to constantly boil the kettle then get distracted and walk away and then need to boil it again.

I even use it for putting in the bucket to mop up with. I have bad to have mine serviced once though and that was about £150 from Quooker but they changed all the filters and the spout was leaking so they changed that too. However when I say I use it lots I really mean I use it tonnes and tonnes.

agapanthii · 13/06/2016 09:35

I agree you would not be able to absent mindedly pop it on to wash your hands. The turn on requires you to push down hard and twist anti- clockwise, it's a conscious action.

pambeesley · 13/06/2016 09:38

my parents are in love with theres. If you can afford it, go for it!

SignedUpAgain · 13/06/2016 09:59

everyone who has one - did you source and purchase it yourself, or was is swallowed up in a big kitchen re-fit?

snowgirl1 · 13/06/2016 13:58

Signedup we sourced and ordered our hot water tap as we were ordering everything for our kitchen and just getting a builder to fit it for us.

agapanthii · 13/06/2016 14:13

same as snowgirl1

OutwardBound2016 · 13/06/2016 14:29

We have the Franke Minerva, I LOVE it, DH said it was a waste of money but is now evangelical about it! I hate cluttered surfaces and love not having a kettle out. We replace the filter every 6 months as we live in a very hard water area.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 13/06/2016 22:02

Yes it's a Qooker (sorry for delay). I bloody love it

PapaWitho · 20/09/2018 23:22

We have had our Quooker for nearly 5 years, and have loved it up until recently. The tap started to spray boiling water out of a tiny hole in the spout. On contacting Quooker customer support, it turns out that this is normal. The hole is a pressure relief hole and has always been there, and once the Teflon coating inside the spout wears out the water will then spray out of this hole. 😏
I am struggling to be convinced that they would design a product knowing it will wear out in only a few years. Or was this Teflon lining a quick design fix to a problem they found during development.
The kind man at Quooker has offered me a replacement for £90 plus £150 fitting. 😂
Here is a link to the video I took showing the water spraying out of the tiny hole.

Newkitchenideas1 · 21/09/2018 08:38

We just brought the quooker fusion 3in1 from ebay cant wait till its installed

another20 · 21/09/2018 15:09

My kitchen supplier is throwing in one as a “gift” it is not something I would have “paid for” .......they have told me tho that Quooker need to instal it £250!!! rather than my plumber who is doing the rest - otherwise the warranty isn’t valid — anyone have any thoughts on which way I should go on this?

Newkitchenideas1 · 21/09/2018 22:13

Another20 i have been in contact with quooker today about our warranty, i said it was being fitted by our kitchen fitter plumber and the lady said to let her know once fitted and she will sort out the warranty! Following your comments above i have gone back to her and asked the direct question about the warranty being invalid if not installed by quooker. I will let you know the outcome

Newkitchenideas1 · 24/09/2018 13:31

Quooker confirmed the warranty will still be valid if fitted by a plumber...

another20 · 24/09/2018 21:43
