Shutters - do they help keep heat in

Just that really. I am buying a house with single glazed sash windows and was thinking about installing shutters to reduce heat loss. Does it work? Or would I be wasting my money? Would blinds and curtains be a better bet? Thanks

I don't know how they compare, but yes, shutters make a massive difference to keeping the heat in. They also significantly reduce noise from outside, and are brilliant blackouts too.

(Used to live in a 100y+ old tenement flat with single glazed sash windows and original shutters all around.)

Yes most definitely, they are fab, we have them in our downstairs on the bay windows!

That's great thanks. The house I am buying has a huge bay window and I feel the cold more than most so am starting to worry that I won't be able to keep it warm in the winter. It sounds like shutters would be a good investment with maybe curtains too for the really cold days.

Hi Op we have big old sash Windows & having shutters made a huge difference, also have curtains for when it's really cold.

We have double glazing and shutters in our bay window. The glazing isn't great and we get drafts through them but the shutters keep it out brilliantly.
