We've loved this for years. It's been on the market on and off for years. It's been POA every time but we've gone sale agreed on our own house and I rang for the price yesterday just out of nosiness and realised that we could actually stretch to it.

PLEASE tell me all the expensive things that we'd have to do to it so I can accept that it's a silly idea and buy a little straightforward 20th century box instead.

Just viewed it.

Bloody hell.

It's way, way worse than it looks in the pictures. There's damp and mould everywhere, the walls are crumbling on the inside around the some of the windows (so badly that you can see daylight through the walls), there's a lot of cracking, there are patches of rotting floorboards in most of the rooms. It needs an expert, and fast, or it's just going to decay beyond repair.

It's absolutely beautiful though - all the original plasterwork is there (under a thick layer of soot!), the fireplaces are all original, the rooms are beautifully proportioned and full of light. The mahogany staircase is in perfect repair and solid as a rock. It's a dream house for someone with a heapload of spare cash and alternate accommodation for about a year.

The owners were insane not to accept the offer of 282000. I'd have taken it and run!

Don't buy it, it will consume every penny you ever have and every minute of your life and sap you of all your energy. I'd still buy it though.

There's no way we could buy it! We couldn't live in it, we couldn't let the kids near it - there are patches of floorboards they could go through. It's not safe.

Great that you looked at it, and the answer is now clear. If you hadn't looked, you'd always have wondered. Know you know. It's not the house for you at the moment

At least now you know and won't be wondering :-)

And now I know why it only costs 295 Euros! Which makes me feel a bit better. Grin
