BTW, I recommend you use your timer and thermostat to automatically control usage.

If you have used 707 cubic metres of gas in 90 days, which is about 7735kWh, or 86kWh (7.8 cu. metres) per day, it is impossible for your boiler to use that in two hours a day. It was my average use in February, heating a larger, but well-insulated house for 17 hours a day.

No we have been in the house since early 2014 and I'm pretty sure last meter reading was taken by the company ? do you think I would be better looking to move to another company ?

you can have a look for better prices, but the difference is usually quite marginal.
This site is part of Martin Lewis' www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub

If you can reduce the heat losses, that will cut your usage, which is likely to make a big and lasting difference. Turning the wall stat down by a couple of degrees, and setting the time to come on half an hour before you get home, and go off half an hour before you go to bed, will help. Your gas usage is too high for a family that is out all day.

See how thick the loft insulation is, there are sometimes subsidised schemes. Keep the internal doors shut while the heating is on, or all the heat will rise upstairs.

PJ is well on the case, but run some comparisons on uswitch, moneysavingexpert or any of the similar sites. You'll need your actual usage figures and your tariff name which will be on your bill.

if you are on a standard variable tariff you are certainly paying too much. The savings may be exaggerated, but a quick spreadsheet will tell you what you will actually save.

you can sometimes get cashback for switching too.

and for the avoidance of doubt - if you pay the bill you choose the supplier, the landlord cannot mandate who you use.

I'm definitely going to do a switch comparison as we have better things we could be wasting money on than excess gas and electricity bills ! Thanks everyone for your help
