Boiling tap drip tray. Yes or No?

Hi all, looking for advice. Am about to have a new kitchen fitted. We've ordered a Quooker boiling tap and it will be positioned away from the main sink and taps. It will be by my induction hob. We are having Quartz worktops. If anyone has done this, would you recommend we install a drip tray of some sorts? And can you recommend a stylish one (not ultra modern as we are having an inframe kitchen. Thanks

purely observational - I was put off these things when one was installed in an office because kettle cords were a hazard (Of course we had cordless kettles!)

I spent the next few years as office first aider repeatedly advising on treatment of small splash scalds. The water wasn't quite boiling so the tea was horrible, but it was certainly hot enough to burn.

I hope the tech has moved on. Me, I'm sticking to a kettle even if I have to replace it every 18 months! Standby power consumption - zero...

llhj. Not technically bomb proof but pretty hard wearing - we are having Quartz. Just an update. I called Quooker today to see what they say,. they recommend a drip tray if it's not at the sink and they have just launched their first drip tray, I think the word prototype was mentioned. It was £115. Fortunately the floors are still up in the kitchen so the plumper has hastily installed a waste pipe. Thanks all for the advice.

Secret glad you are sorted. Yes it would be a squeeze under a 60cm sink but I could get one under mine but then I had a very tidy plumber.

Special it is never a good idea to have boiling water to make a cup of tea, depending on the type of tea it can be as low as 70 degrees. Mine is an instant hot water tap because it isn't heated to 100 degrees so cannot call itself a boiling water tap, Quooker is able to do that. Mine is set to 95 degrees.

Maybe people who scalded themselves were just numpties Grin I have had mine 3 years and have never so much as splashed myself. It does make a lovely cup of tea. I live in Yorkshire. Yorkshire people apparently know a lot about tea. We have a brand named after us Grin

So the clearance under the tap is a point to consider. I also fill jugs for drinking water. I don't have a filter but the water tastes so much better Mine isn't boiling for less than a second, then it is hissing and steaming and the receptical has to be close up and under the spout.

Having it close to the hob, well on the same side as the hob is good enough. It is not going to be your main use and if you have an induction hob with boost function getting to a boil point is going to be rapid anyway.

Special subject, it's nothing like work boiling taps I've used. If it isn't set at boiling I don't see the point as this changes the taste for the better as most organic compounds flash to steam. Also it needs to be used quite differently to a kettle or a tap to be safe. However I see it as much safer than a kettle which is one of the main causes of household accidents.

But one advantage OP of no sink is ...that guests are unlikely to attempt to wash their hands under it. This has happened!

i can't see why the flask on a flexible hose cannot go into the cupboard next to the sink but...its up to you, have if where you like!

Thanks op. I'm looking for one that looks like marble but is actually Quartz. Did you get a particular brand?

Secretsout · 14/05/2016 21:19

llhj. I desperately wanted marble as I want a white top. I was met with amusement when I told the providers I wanted marble but wasn't prepared to be precious about the worktops. Once supplier has found me a quartz, the colour is Bianco Masso (sorry I don't know who the manufacturer is). It looks exactly like the marble, feels cold and solid like marble and I have abused the sample piece with various tricky food products - non of which have stained or marked.

That's just what I'm looking for. Thanks so much. x
