New Forest

Knowing I have spare time and enjoy looking at property (porn) my son-in-law has requested my assistance to "locate something with curb appeal and character" in New Forest.
I'm in Canada and I don't know enough about the area.
Can the wise ones of MN please help me narrow down the area so that my right move searches are more focused.
budget very very generous, one child with one due later this year, he has an office in London but works often from home.

Try searching 10 miles from Brockenhurst, Ringwood, Lymington

If you find a house on right move that shows you photos of the New Forest ponies that wins you lots of points !

There is forest and moorland that is grazed by free roaming ponies and cattle

Why not come and visit and enjoy

forest nice but vvvv exp and the traffic omg the traffic - there will be jams at the weekends in and out of the big towns in summer

not huge on supermarkets or useful shops - most shops are v touristy

be prepared for septic tanks, bottle gas,oil tanks, inadequate street lights, unmade roads - some houses are very isolated

if all that hasn't put you off :) make sure you are close to a station if commuting and check fast trains into london

lyndhurst and lymington are biggest towns -lyndhurst full of traffic and v tea roomish, lymington on the coast v yachty but more of a town centre

brockenhurst - small town/village with station but hugely exp and not much in way of shops

make sure you visit before you think of buying :)

If he arrives and decides to complain about the ponies in the roads and that the speed limit is 40...... He'll be chased out with pitchforks.

North has less traffic, downton and fordingbridge area are on Salisbury side.

Even a fast train will make the journey to London dreadful. Remember he will have to get to the City or the Wharf or somewhere from the main line, which will involve a walk, a wait, and a fight to get on the tube or DLR or something. Possibly two.

Don't know if the train will go to Paddington or Waterloo from there. Waterloo is tolerable for the City.

PigletJohn · 28/04/2016 00:52

BTW I once had a delivery van lost to a forest fire in Ringwood. Just sayin'

stareatthetvscreen · 28/04/2016 00:57

waterloo i think

PigletJohn · 28/04/2016 01:13

yes, Waterloo

Out2pasture · 28/04/2016 01:25

oh thank you everyone :) with the time difference I will have many enjoyable hours of searching.

should I get stuck I will reach out again.
money isn't an issue over 1M most likely to be the range I start at
pj i'll keep transportation in mind,

1st, the 1.7M looks interesting, it's listed as being in the same area as the 1.3 one.

I would go for Lymington. It's a really pretty market town with sailing clubs, old fashioned pubs and he could park at Brockenhurst (10min drive away) station to get to London.
