We heard from our solicitor at 10.30 to say we had completed... And we are still waiting now to be able to get in!

This is us in a few weeks- very nervous about timings as we are the last in the chain. Need to speak to solicitor....

5tardusty · 15/04/2016 16:23

It was about 3pm for us. They took ages to get out

MissAnneElliot · 15/04/2016 17:12

Hope you're in op

specialsubject · 15/04/2016 17:39

1130 - but no chain. We'd left ours some months earlier (moved into a rental) and had moved out 2 days before completion so if there was a holdup, nothing to do with us.

there was a nightmare thread a few weeks back about people who didn't realise that they needed to be out on completion day, so I hope that hasn't happened to the OP!

That's awful MaryPoppins. Did your solicitors do nothing to help? (Before they closed, obviously).

GreenMarkerPen · 15/04/2016 18:24

just barge in there. tell them you are going into a hotel and send them the bill if they are not out in half an hour. and that you will seek compensation through the solicitor.

Palomb · 15/04/2016 18:32

What are they doing?!?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 15/04/2016 18:35

It's tricky, I'm trying not to be too forceful because our children go to the same school, but it's getting crazy now, I've messaged loads.

biscuitkumquat · 15/04/2016 18:39

OP, that's rubbish.

It's your house. If it were me, I think I would just start bringing my things in, find your kettle, plug it in & make a brew.

And say to the old occupants that you need them to be out in 1/2 an hour, and start moving their stuff out into the garden.

RJnomore1 · 15/04/2016 18:41

4.59 pm just before the estate agent woman gave up and went home leaving us with a van full of our stuff and nowhere to go on a Friday night.

AnneElliott · 15/04/2016 18:42

It was about 3pm with us. Estate agent reckoned they hadn't been told the sake had gone through (everyone else has been toldHmm).

I had to threaten to break in and send them the bill before the agents would hand over they keys. For some reason they refused to ring the solicitors to check.

Roseberrry · 15/04/2016 18:42

We knew it would take forever so planned to move the next day. They were out by 5 on completion day.

Lighteningirll · 15/04/2016 19:20

It's your house! Just start moving in, I had to do this with a house we completed at 12 picked up keys at 2 at 4pm we were still sitting outside and the van driver had to be back by 5.30, we were passing in the hallway them moving out us moving in very very stressful. The lady moving was adamant she had all day, solicitors estate agents no one could budge her. The estate agent suggested I call the police that's when she agreed I could pile stuff in one room but only one room bloody nightmare

Muskateersmummy · 15/04/2016 19:28

Received a call from solicitor followed by one from the seller, met her there about twenty minutes later and she handed over the key, a card and a bottle of wine. Nicest lady every.

Muskateersmummy · 15/04/2016 19:28

ever not every!

StepAwayFromTheThesaurus · 15/04/2016 19:50

You in yet?

If not I think it would be reasonable to send your DH/P round go round there and tell them that they need to get out as it is your house now and they're taking the piss. Doesn't matter that your kids are at the same school - they're still cheeky buggers.

sailawaywithme · 15/04/2016 19:58

It's staggering to me that people don't move all their stuff out the day before. Do people actually wait to start humping boxes until someone's sitting in their driveway? Madnes. Hope you get in soon OP.

listsandbudgets · 15/04/2016 20:06

I've bought twice and in both cases we were able to go in about half an hour after getting call - as long as it took to walk to estate agents then house basically.

House one was still full of disgusting furniture, non working appliances and FILTHY. We were sort of expecting it though as we were buying from a bankrupt and they'd been awful to deal with throughout. Luckily we diddn't need to move strait in as had a few weeks to run on our rented home.+

House 2 was immaculate and will never be as good again :)

yummychocolate · 15/04/2016 22:20

Hope you are in now op!

We completed today 12:30pm. Went to the house 2:30pm and the sellers were still packing up. Luckily we are in rented so not moving today. The whole process is so stressful.

Linnet · 16/04/2016 14:50

I've never bought a house and then moved into it, so this all makes very interesting reading. What I don't understand is how you go to the solicitors/estate agents? to pick up the keys and then go to the house and find the people still moving out? Does everyone have two sets of keys? Does the solicitor/estate agent get a copy of keys while you're living in the house for showing purposes?
Sorry if these are really dumb questions but as I said I've never done this and reading these threads makes it sounds all so stressful

I hope you are in now Marypoppins and everything went well.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 16/04/2016 16:10

We managed to get in yesterday at 9.30pm...

And now I'm on the hunt for an oven to fit into the hole where they've taken one Confused

(Needs to be only 50cm high though... Any ideas?!)

OP posts:
MiniCooperLover · 16/04/2016 16:20

That's awful OP! What the hell did they say to excuse that??? Were they supposed to take the oven ?? Currys seem to sell them that size.

wonkylegs · 16/04/2016 16:30

This house we completed at 12 and got in at around 2.30 / 3 but had to drive over an hour to get here and we stopped for lunch, we then had to wait for them to manoevre their vans out of the drive so ours could come in (they had 2 huge moving lorries we had 3 small ones).
House before this one we completed at 11am got in at about 11.05 (5mins walk from EA where I picked up key to house), but house was empty before we moved.
