How important is living in a property which has on access to front door and garden

Hi all I was just wondering, what is more likely to get a mutual swap? A beautiful Victorian conversion property on one level in a sought after area with shared garden, and communal/shared front door . Or or a maisonette in a not as sought after location but has own front door, own garden, and own drive, also internal stairs ?

I suppose it would depend on how bad the not so sort after area was. I would go for the own front door as I have a cat but if I wasn't into gardening or had any pets I would probably go for other property.

I would lean towards the maisonette because I don't like having to compromise in my own home/garden and I think for the Victorian property to work you would need lots of compromise etc.

I'd go for the maisonette. I wouldn't even use a shared garden and I'd like to enter my home without having to come across people at any time.

It totally depends on the buyer.

Some people love period decor and hate gardens. Others love gardens and their own entrance. For some, the postcode will matter; for others the amount of internal space.

Sorry, I realise that this isn't that helpful in making a decision!! I suppose, if you're caught in the dilemma between the two, I would say: what do YOU love?

I would want my own driveway and garden so would go for the maisonette - plus victorian properties tend to be cold and have more issues.

Thank you all for your advice, I guess the current property I'm in has lots of character, the location is also great, however the other location isn't actually too far but it's funny how just on the other side of a postcode seems so different not terrible though....the maisonette is cute, prefer where I am but in the end the drive, the garden the own front door seems more appealing, particularly when you have nosey neighbours lol

Totally agree - own drive and garden hugely eclipses period features in practical daily living. Plus communal garden can be hell if noisy neighbours monopolise it. Shudder!
