Has anyone got a mortgage with a poor credit rating?

I've just checked my credit rating on Noddle and as I expected it's pretty poor, which I'm gutted about. I've had many addresses over the last 10 years and got into some real financial messes. I'm working my way out of it now though and living within my means on a decent salary (38k)

Do I stand any chance of getting a mortgage of £117k? I was offered one in principle last week of up to £160k but that was before I check my credit score. Also, a contact at Natwest said if there was anything "too horrendous" on my file, I'd have been rejected outright... I'm so confused. Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

Sorry, no.
But good luck. It's a hard and painful journey you are about to embark upon, but it will be worth it.

I had pretty poor credit when we got our mortgage but we got one with natwest. We used a broker who was great, especially as we weren't likely to be accepted by most lenders.

Hi DraenorQueen,

It encouraging to hear you secured a mortgage offer even though your credit file wasn't giving a high score.
Sometimes there is a lot more to it than just whats on your credit file., and of course which credit company you use and how far back any adverse credit goes.

So many people believe if their credit file isnt perfect then thats it! and don't bother even trying.
Thankfully that is not the case.
Over the last decade we have been through a recession, which had lasting effects on many people's lives for some years afterwards.

However the industry react to that soon began to change in order to get back on it's feet.
It's not so black and white anymore and there are lenders out their to fit most situations.
Hoping your settled in your new home now.
