Bedroom curtains

Have so many design decisions to make at the moment, I have this one little detail crippling me, but I need to get on and place a huge fabric order, so need to decide.

Floor length or below-sill length curtains in the master bedroom? Pencil pleat or eyelet? Two wide but not particularly high windows. Radiator is directly below the bigger window. Cold north-facing room.

Thinking of this or this fabric.

Walls will be Little Greene Woad Ercol style furniture.

Wow, well our house is nowhere near that energy efficient although I am hoping for improvements when we get our shiny new gas central heating in a few weeks time.

1930s cottage = The front half of the house was a 2 bedroom no bathroom cottage with beams and fairly uneven floors/walls, built in the 1930s though, so not 'ye olde' with a thatched roof or anything. I didn't realise this was weird as there are lots in the small villages around here. They were built in modern times, but in 1930s mock Arts and Craft style to fit in with the houses already there which are a mix of A&C and thatched roof type. Most, including mine, have been massively extended for modern living, often quite unsympathetically (looking at you, previous owners and your crimes against decor in general).

I'm thinking no to Roman blinds by the way because they will be very difficult to make wide/strong enough for the very long and short type of windows we have upstairs, and having two on one window looks weird and gives space for light to creep through. Also, I do not want to go to the expense and effort of making them to find out I have a condensation problem/mouldy blind. Even though you may not have suffered condensation, your house is seemingly much warmer than mine in general. We've done a lot of insulating measures, but sadly replacing all the doors and windows in this house is going to have to wait until someone dies/I win the lottery!

Hum. I'm looking at this house, which is not a million miles away in terms of period/style and they have a mix.

buy a roller blind first (it can be very cheap) to fit within the recess - maybe a colour to match the walls'? then do the decorative floor length curtains when you can budget-wise. pencil pleats indeed, and hang them as close the ceiling as possible, even if the windows don't go that high, it will make them, and the room, look more generous: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-0uaCcp6Xubw/UcvHv_b3STI/AAAAAAAAKag/gEtcfZywAtU/s640/HighWideCurtains.jpeg

We have full length silk, but have attached sill length black out linings. This has the added advantage of not shutting out too much of the heat from the radiator.
