Small dining tables for 6 people

What would be the smallest size dining table that would still seat 6 people around it? One we have is 152 X 92 cm and is a bit too big for the small dining area we have. Thanks Smile

That's roughly the same size as mine, and I reckon that's about the smallest you could get away with to fit 6 people. Have you thought of a fold up table?

traceyed1 · 03/04/2016 15:49

Yeah not too keen on the folding ones. We have 5 people in the house so need a 6 seater one. Seen a few that are 120cm which say you can fit 6 round at a push.

We have a round 115 cm Ikea extending one. You can fit 6 round if you're feeling too lazy to extend it - though it's cosy. (6 with lots of room when extended.)

Hi which one have you got from ikea? And which chairs? Thanks

Not sure of the dimensions but we have the very cheapest Ikea table - table and 4 chairs for maybe £60. We can fit 6 around it to eat but there isn't room for serving dishes etc.

We actually bought two of these - one goes in another room then when we have people over we bring it in and put them together. Was still much cheaper than a bigger table.

we have an oval table. It is the same size than a standard table, but because of the angled legs and the oval shape it is seasy to sit 6 people around it and no one is squeezed in like with a rectangle table.

BlueCowWonders · 03/04/2016 17:53

Ours from IKEA is 120x75. Too small for 6 adults but not bad for children and adults mixed.

I would go for oval or a pedestal type table. The limiter on a normal table is getting 2 chairs between the legs, and having a pedestal removes that limitation.

Smaller chairs or stools could also help, or built in bench seating. We've had 9 eating at our 120x70 kitchen table with normal corner legs. But that was with 2 sides having monks' bench built-in seating, and half of those people were pretty small at the time. And corner legs make it hard to get in and out from the bench seating - I'm looking to swap the table.

I'd go for a bench either side - love it! But can't find one where the bench tucks under - narrow room -

Thank you!

What do you think about this one?

I like that link although the chairs might be spread out in the photograph because it would be hard to get 6 people around it? I'd probably want to see a similar sized table up close (and sit at it) before I made a decision.

We had a similar IKEA table - also the Bjursta range - but a square one (90x90) which extended to 180 x 90. We have stools which stacked underneath it (not the most comfy option for long dinners) but fine for everyday use.

TotalConfucius · 04/04/2016 12:39

My 2001 IKEA is 139 X 89 and comfortably seats 6 with room for some serving dishes in the middle. It also extends either end so can do 12 when necessary. This table is due to depart during the renovations planned later this year but I can see myself having a last minute change of heart. It's been a brilliant table.
I also have a smaller IKEA one which is 90 X 90 but extends to 127 or 164.

If space were really limited would go for an oval with a central leg.

FraterculaArctica · 04/04/2016 12:43

I'm selling one on eBay at the moment which is 137 x 81 cm - that seats 6 Smile
