Bi- fold doors or French Windows?

We are moving to a 1960s house and doing quite a lot of renovation to it. The largest room backs on the the garden, and will be our living and dining room, with a semi- open plan kitchen in the next room. We are hoping to change a large picture window in to an opening, either for bi fold doors or French Windows. Are there pro's and cons to either? Our 'look' won't be ultra modern, but quite a mixture of inherited furniture and some fifties stuff. Has anyone got any thoughts either way?

I love our bifolds too. Can't wait til next month as hopefully will be able to have them fully open often as we did last Easter. Ours are also flush with the deck outside and it means that the garden does seem like another room

We have our catflap in the wall next to the bifolds - cat seems very happy.

We have both. They both have a recessed threshold so there's no lip to step over which I'd recommend. The bifolds have a slimmer frame so have less of a visual impact when closed. The french doors swing back a long way though, so when they're open they're more out of the way rather than sat in the opening. Think I'd go for french doors.

Hi peeps! Interesting discussion as I'm having a kitchen extension done and would like to install aluminium French doors with panels on the sides but all I see on the net is bi-fold doors! Google aluminium window suppliers and most will do French doors with side panels but you may need to talk to them rather than rely on their website
