Upvc patio door - cheaper to replace than fix?

The locking mechanism in our kitchen door is properly broken. (It's a sliding French door - probably about 20 years old). We had to call emergency locksmiths out tonight who said it's be cheaper to replace the door than the mechanism.

DH didn't like the cut of their jib / wasn't overwhelmed with their expertise so isn't sure,

In the meantime we got them to screw it closed to make sure the house is secure (plenty of other close exits in case of fire). It was 11pm by this time and I wasn't going to bed with an unlocked door.

Any experience with this?

Rather than an emergency locksmith, look for a local independent who specialises in repairing plastic windows and doors. There will be one.

Not a national agency with an 0800 or 0870 number.

Our locking system in our patio broken recently, the lock, handle and frame. We replaced the whole lot for £25. I'd defo price the parts before deciding!

Ours is maybe only 7/8 years old tho. Also upvc.

I agree with Julieb85 definitely look into the cost of parts first but sounds as if your door wasn't installed correctly?

Also - did you check if your door was still under warranty? If they did a bad job they should definitely correct it for free I reckon, although I know its not as simple as that :-)
