Admire my bathroom splashback.....then tell me, should I tile a bit further across??

I have finally (1 year after bathroom completion) put a mosaic tiled splashback behind the handbasin, as the sheet of acrylic wasn't cutting it.

Lovely, eh? Smile

But now I'm wondering, does it look OK as is, or should I continue the tiling right across the width of the unit? I can't decide!! Opinions??

Yep, go all the way.

BooOzMoo · 03/01/2016 11:43

It definitely needs to continue across the width of the cabinet!

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 03/01/2016 11:43

I think it looks a little incomplete. Tiling the whole width would look great.

Yika · 03/01/2016 11:44

Agree - go all the way!

NoonAim · 03/01/2016 11:47

It is lovely, and another yes to all the way across.

TwoTonTessie · 03/01/2016 11:48

For practicality you can keep it as is but I think it would look better going all the way across.

I think it needs to go all the way across too.Its lovely.

ModenaMan · 03/01/2016 11:50

All the way, otherwise it would look like a DH diy job " I'll finish it later". Grin

Argh, part of me was hoping you'd say it looked fine (being a lazy cow), but in my heart I know I should tile the rest.

I've been doing that thing with my hand blocking the white bit, trying to visualise how it would look......

I really appreciate your opinions.

LOL at DH DIY.

I wouldn't let my ham-fisted DH anywhere near a task like this - at Chateau Cointreau such things fall to me.

Another vote for extending it - it looks ok but it will look fab all the way across. Did you do it yourself? Was it a faff?

TheCrowFromBelow · 03/01/2016 11:56

x post Grin sounds like the set up Chez Crow.

I'd like tile behind the hob. How tricky were mosaic tiles? I have never tiled before and want to avoid buying tile cutters etc....

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2016 12:03

Crow - mosaic tiles were super easy (I also didn't want to do any cutting). They come in a big sheet - just spread the adhesive (I got a big tub of adhesive/grout combined) and stick them on.

I would have got a professional in for a large area, or somewhere like a shower where they would be constantly wet, but this small area was simple.

It will look lovely done all across.

Crow - mosaics aren't difficult but I find proper tiles easier as you can use spacers, they are more rigid (a whole sheet of mosaics is floppy) and there is much less grouting to do. Also mosaics, with all the nooks and crannies in between, might be a job to scrub clean of cooker grease. You might end up with gummy yellow grout quite quickly!

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2016 13:04

Grr...it is getting complicated.

The gap at the right-hand side of the splahback is 5mm larger at the top than at the bottom (the right hand wall is slightly bowed; I tiled to the level of the cabinet).

It isn't obvious with the splashback ending where it is now, but if I put a couple more rows of mosaic up, it will be obvious.

What to do....what to do???

Leave it then if you are happy with it as is.
2 options take of existing and start again or could you pick an accent color from one of the mosaic colours and paint the wall to the left in that, or would that look odd.

TenTinyTadpoles · 03/01/2016 16:46

Go all the way (ahem)

Seeyounearertime · 03/01/2016 16:48

Personally, I'd go all the way and round the right corner.
