Thermostat woes

I think our thermostat (altech/salus althoc014) is dying. It seems to be sending random on signals to the boiler having worked fine for two years. These seem to be generated from the receiver rather than the wireless control centre - ie the green light comes on the receiver which is wired to the boiler and fires the boiler - even when the control centre has no flame icon showing. It seems to be the thermostat as we get no random firings if we switch it off. Is there anything we can do to fix it?? (Salus are shut for the holidays). Or should we just replace it. I know Honeywell is well though of - but there seem to be problems with the lcd display after a few year (maybe due to moisture??). What about Drayton - I can't find many reviews?? Unfortunately a wired thermostat isn't really an option. Any thoughts gratefully received.

wireless are generally less reliable than wired.

Fading LCD displays are common. The makers might say they have improved them but you won't know for several years. If yours has an internal battery you could start by fitting a new one. I find Lithium batteries last very well. For some reason Duracell are a slightly non-standard shape and do not always fit well.

Salus is a budget brand and Honeywell is better.

If you have a wireless transmitter such as a router, doorbell, baby alarm, burglar alarm, wifi extender, cordless phone, laptop, try to reposition it away from the two parts of the thermostat.

Thanks PJ. We replaced the AA batteries a few weeks ago - but I note we didn't loose the settings - does this mean there is another hidden battery that might be changeable? (Can't find any reference to in the instruction - but assume there must be something rather than magic). We were probably tardy in changing the batteries - could this cause the problems now (with new in place??).

Salus are terrible in my opinion. I fit the Drayton where customers express no preference. Dozens of units a year and they cause me very few problems. PJ is right (as always) about competing wireless signals
