kitchen inspiration needed!

I have a undercounter gap (2 cupboard widths) which the previous owners had fridge and freezer in. We have a stacked fridge freezer in the corner of the kitchen so don't need to use for this purpose. I have had a quote to install cupboards into this space but it's not an exact fit so there would be a 10cm gap and we can't find an exact cupboard match - it's is also £££ for two cupboards in my opinion.

Anyone have any bright ideas or how to use the space? preferably for storage and preferably hidden that won't cost the earth.

What is the actual width if 2 cupboards won't fit?

Can't you just put a filler panel in it?

Filler panel yes that is included in quote - width is 110cm so 2 50cm cupboards and a gap. The doors available don't exactly match what we have so i am begrudging £700 for something that neither fits perfectly or matches exactly.

A 60 and a 50?

Would look stupid as we have a 50cm either side.

I go for deep drawers over cupboard space any day. How about a 50cm cupboard and 60cm set of drawers?

Ah, ok, didn't realise - standard cupboard width is 60. A drinks fridge and a cupboard?

I don't think a 60cm draw unit would look odd with 50cm cupboards in the way that a 60cm cupboard would.

It's pretty much impossible to have too many drawers (especially deep ones). to my mind.

But, erm, why have you moved the fridge and freezer? Do they not fit?

If it's just because you need more storage space then a new, full hight unit in the corner would be a much more logical solution, surely? It'd probably make the not-quite-exact with the existing cupboards pretty much invisible too, you'd think.

Previous owners had fridge freezer there. Ours is stacked one (can't separate) and I don't really want to have to bend down to get in the fridge so don't want to buy fridge and freezer to put there.
Basically I think I need to talk DH into a new kitchen as what we have doesn't really work for us tho visually it isn't that bad. Wish it was horrible so I had better argument for changing it!

What's wrong with the kitchen as it stands? It's sometimes possible to re-jig things a bit.

I'm assuming that you already have a dishwasher / you don't but it wouldn't be practical to plumb one in there.

I'm doing a rejig/ facelift of my kitchen and had a very similar problem except it was an 80 cm gap (undercounter fridge and they had one of those old fashioned bookcase ends). I replaced with an 80cm pan drawer unit. Agree that a 50 + 60cm drawers won't look as weird. I am replacing all the doors, including removinf the little drawerline drawers to make all base units highline. I am using a company called Larks and Larks but also considered DIY kitchens. L&L had the edge as I couldn't be bothered to drill all the hinge holes on the new doors and they did that for me. I'll do a new floor and also repaint and get a swish new hob. Would something like that work for you?

I've installed the cupboards diy and it was easy peasy. No way would I pay someone but I am notoriously tight.
