How much did you pay for your new combi boiler?

So, our almost 18-year old combi boiler has finally given up the ghost and we are going to replace it. Our plumber (usually trustworthy) plumber has recommended one, but I just wanted to get a sense of the price people usually pay for a new boiler plus installation. I've googled but the prices vary wildly.

He is recommending an Ideal boiler because it has a 7 year guarantee. 24kw.

So, what did you pay for boiler and installation? Thanks v much!

Sorry twirly- welsh valleys.

Wigeon- dependant on area and what's included it could be fair- with a plume kit, condensate pump, and a fair whack of pipe work. If you wall is stone so will be a nightmare to get through. Is he taking away a back boiler and replacing with the ideal- the quote would make far more sense if he is.

Ps 24kw is quite small, if your planning on extension or adding rads/towel rails, or running an extra shower through the combi it may not be powerful enough. Not questioning your plumber, but it's always best to think long term IMO and slightly oversize than undersize to allow for extras.

Wigeon · 30/11/2015 20:08

Cookingongas: he did say he'd need to put in extra pipes. Walls are cavity insulated brick (1950s house). I've looked up what a back boiler is - seems to be something behind a stove? We just have a very old combi boiler in a cupboard next to the bathroom (installed Feb 1998), and the new boiler will go where the old one is. That's encouraging that you aren't Shock Shock at the quote.

Re 24kw - thanks for raising that, good point. Very unlikely we would ever add another bathroom - no space. No room in current bathroom to add another towel rail (we do have one already). We have already extended the kitchen and added a fairly wide rad there, and current boiler seems to be ok with that.

We paid nearly £4K for a Worcester Bosch. Some new pipes, some electrical upgrading, removal of old hot water tank, re-routing flue andxrepairingvold flue route, power flush thingy and a year free servicing / guarantee etc.

museumum · 30/11/2015 20:13

Three days work and involved the installer an electrician and a roofer.

adr07 · 30/11/2015 20:22

£1,450 inclusive for a Vokera 28kw combi with a 7 year guarantee, all parts and labour.

Cookingongas · 30/11/2015 20:27

Museum has reminded me- he should be including a magna-clean ( or a similar filter) in that quote. And a good clock/thermostat.

I am on a few engineer only boards, where what you price is #no1 discussion, and the cost he's quoted isn't huge. It would be here, or in some of the north and Scotland but not the se certainly.

CarrieLouise25 · 30/11/2015 20:38

2 years ago we paid £1800 all in, for top of the range Worcester boiler and 7 year guarantee.

Definitely shop around, we were quoted £2500 for a basic boiler with no 7 year guarantee, and definitely avoid British Gas.

Good luck Smile

Wigeon · 30/11/2015 20:42

Cooking: that really is reassuring re the cost. We are basically London prices for most things. When I googled the cost of the boiler alone, I was just scratching my head about what the rest of the quote comprises. He's only texted the figure though, and is emailing us a proper quote which will include the breakdown.

We have a lovely wireless thermostat already, which is really good and nifty (you can put it in whichever room you are in), so hopefully he can reuse that? I will check the quote for the filter thing too.

Meanwhile, we have had no hot water or heating since Friday morning - thank goodness it's around 10 centigrade here, not around zero!

We are getting a new combi fitted soon and our plumber quoted £2300. It is a vaillant with 7 year guarantee and he was the cheapest quote we got.

whitewineandchocolate · 30/11/2015 20:49

We are in London, just had a Worcester fitted, cost £2,682 by our regular, trusted plumber.

mrsm1984 · 30/11/2015 20:52

We paid £2k for a Worcester greenstar boiler in May. The price also includes a wireless thermostat (the Wave... I wouldn't bother again). Pretty pleased actually as we're saving loads on energy compared with last year. I'm in the south west.

f1fan2015 · 30/11/2015 23:15

£1500 for a Worcester combi last year including installation - in Yorkshire for a 2 bed mid terrace

BikeRunSki · 30/11/2015 23:55

We got a new Worcester Bosch last winter, with 5 thermostatic radiator valves, and a new thermostat - £1972 fitted.

BikeRunSki · 30/11/2015 23:56

Sorry, S/W Yorks, 3 bed:2 bath house.

kali43 · 01/12/2015 20:58

sorry to jump on this post - have a single pipe system in a house without enough radiators (or sockets for that matter!). Cookingongas - what sort of quote do you think would be reasonable for south wales coast. Worcester 38cdi, magnetic filter, worcester comfort 1rf, 11 new radiators and pipework going under floors in living rooms and extended to add to attic room. Have had one over £6000 is this reasonable or should i shop around further?

Cookingongas · 02/12/2015 20:04

I don't know the level of extension but as a reference I am installing a Worcester 40cdi with no huge alterations in January and I've quoted 2600- the boiler itself is expensive, plus flue, clock, inhibitor etc and you pay extra for longer warrantee and they are not easy to fit- so with extensions, new rads and pipe work £6000 + could be reasonable, but ALWAYS shop around, if nothing else having 3 quotes will give you an average. If you find a worcester specific installer or someone who has recently been one they may have bulk discount on the boiler- potential savings, same goes for rads etc. I always give seemingly cheaper rates on vailant because I install lots, I bulk buy from supplier so get a good % off. Whereas I'm paying full on a Worcester.
Same goes for rads etc.

What you describe in teens of work, I'm imagining a three man team ( or woman- not that I've encountered any other women but I'm told I'm not alone) for four days (max) If the boys are each on £100 and installer on slightly more per day £6000 is easily reached. Bit definitely shop around. I'm in South Wales and there's huge competition here so you do have the advantage, tell them what you've been quoted you may find flexibility, - feel slightly like I've betrayed fellow installers, never mind Wink -

Quodlibet · 04/12/2015 16:06

We are London and my v trusty plumber quoted me £1800 inc fitting for a good boiler, 2 bed flat.

Callmecordelia · 04/12/2015 16:13

We are in Kent and had a new Worcester system 18kw system boiler installed last month, with a new flue, installed a new thermostat and got our megaflo serviced. We got it done for £1890, but the highest quote we had was £2500 for a Vaillant, and then £2200 for a glowworm, and another came in at £2000 for another Worcester. We have 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms.

kali43 · 04/12/2015 16:44

thanks cooking..dont feel bad, you're helping a skint family not over spend when we need new electrics and a knock through too Wink

FinestGrundyTurkey · 04/12/2015 17:01

We had a Worcester combi installed 2 years ago for (I think) about £1800

That included some larger diameter pipework - our old boiler was over 30 & requirements have changed a lot since then apparently

FinestGrundyTurkey · 04/12/2015 17:03

I'm in Lancashire, 3-bed mid-terrace plus attic, bathroom & shower room. Generally only 3 adults in the house though so simultaneous use not a massive problem, but in any case new boiler copes better with that than old one)

Celeriacacaca · 05/12/2015 14:37

£2.8k for a Worcester Bosch combi boiler with 7 year guarantee (as long as serviced each year). Radiators all flushed out, magnetic thing installed, some pipework rejigged. A two day job in which plumber and mate didn't stop at all having arrived early and left late. They did an excellent job and very happy with much quieter new boiler.

Celeriacacaca · 05/12/2015 14:40

Should add, British Gas quote was £4.8k for a Baxi boiler and they wanted to build a box on our pitch roof to run flue through at an additional cost!!! Salesman couldn't give me exact dimensions of the new boiler (I found it myself online). Two other quotes £2.6k and £2.9k but didn't like fact both were late and didn't speak to me as if I was capable of understanding boiler issues...

OurBlanche · 05/12/2015 14:56

BG fitted Worcester combi boiler, larger pipes, removal of tanks in airing cupboard and loft, removal and replumb of power shower to bath, new hole through wall, old one filled in, powerflush, programmable thermostat and a year's insurance free for just under £3000.

Not sure I would recommend them if you have work surfaces you love or want the house left pristeen, but the actual fitting was fine.
