Iron/brass bed? Feather and Black??

We're thinking of upgrading to a kingsize bed in the new year. Ideally don't want to spend much more than £500 and feather and black seem to have some fairly nice ones around that price point. I've never had a metal bed before - do you get what you pay for? Is £500 for a kingsize bed going to get us something decent? Has anyone got a feather and black metal bed and do you like it? Other suggestions would be great! Would really appreciate some advice!

I have a kingsize F&B Oliver bed. I bought it about 8 years ago and it still looks as good as new. Really really pleased with it.

Oh fab thanks! Seems like a managed to post twice - this is the bed I have my eye on www.featherandblack.com/beds/all-beds/tosca-bed although the Oliver is lovely too!

Won't the metal frame be cold to touch in winter? Just a thought...

ihatethecold · 13/11/2015 20:10

We bought a super long metal bed from a company called Nights in Iron about 15 years ago.
It's still looks brand new.
It's very, very heavy though.

ihatethecold · 13/11/2015 20:12

Also I now wish we had a soft headboard.
I do have to pile the pillows against it to sit up in bed.

CottonSock · 13/11/2015 20:15

Yes we have one. Dh is tall and wanted one you could take off end. Had it assembled which was a good idea. It did creak a lot, but eventually I found the right bit to tighten with spanner. Still looks like new. Also I remember the bed was reduced after I ordered it and I called f&b and they refunded me difference. Would use again

Thanks everyone. Not too worried about it being cold in winter but the leaning against the headboard is worth considering. However I do love soft furnishings and any excuse for more pillows and cushions is good in my book. We have a very old cottage, beams in the bedroom, deep windows etc so aesthetic all I think it will look lovely! Hope I can make it work comfort wise too or DH will kill me!

Will look up Nights in Iron as well too thanks!

I have a F&B bed and wouldn't get one again. We had endless problems after ordering - tooks many weeks more than expected, came damaged, customer services very unhelpful when we tried to get things sorted out (only agreed to replace it when I posted pictures showing stains, rips on a supposedly new bed etc on their FB page).

It is a soft headboard one though not iron.

AesopsMables · 14/11/2015 09:04

We have a F&B bed in one of spare rooms, it is poor quality IMHO. Hardly slept in and already frame is looser than it should be combined with mattress that feels cheap - it was not cheap.

Our main bed is fabulous though completely solid with big deep mattress and Brass/Iron frame is very sturdy. We got this from the Cornish Bed Company with a Heritage mattress, the folks there were a pleasure to deal with and provide wonderful advice and service. I am afraid it was considerably more than £500 but worth every penny.

We have just got rid of our metal bed (although it wasn't F&B) and it was 16 years old. I would agree with thinking about sitting up against the headboard being uncomfortable but it still looked good. Started to squeak a little but that was probably because it's been dismantled and reassembled several times. I'm guessing that for a standard iron bed, there isn't much added value to spending lots. I'd invest in the mattress instead.

putcustardonit · 14/11/2015 11:51

We have a F&B metal bed but we bought the mattress from JL. We have big square pillows for reading in bed.

DorothyDove · 14/11/2015 12:25

Hmmmm, sounds like v mixed reviews for F&B. Maybe I will need to up the budget a bit!! I know which mattress we want and would buy it separately so it's just the frame we need, thanks for the suggestions will look them up!

www.featherandblack.com/beds/all-beds/rossetti-bed

This is ours. When we moved house the removal chaps made it back up very strongly and it's never sneaked or moved.
It's a big bed though so more suited to a big room.
