Where to live in West London with kids?

Looking to move, have an almost 3 year old and a baby and any help would be gratefully received. Current stipulations:

  • A commute of no more than an 1h into Central London.
  • Good open green spaces.
  • Lots of cafes / restaurants.
  • Decent secondary schools.
  • Budget of 400k.

DH and I have no idea about any of these places as neither of us were London raised.

Am really interested in Hounslow, Feltham, Brentford.

Am open to any suggestions! Tia.

Secondary schools around that area are a nightmare, the good ones are massively over subscribed and the shit ones are well, shit. Primaries/juniors, excellent but always on the radar that you may have to move for a good secondary place. Good luck OP

It's not helpful to make sweeping generalisations about schools, especially secondary, when the reputation of schools changes (up and down) year on year, and also admissions criteria change too. Impossible to second-guess how it will look in 7 years time. Better to focus on the primaries at this stage.

Indeed chippy but the OP did specifically ask....I have lived in the area all my life and imho the ones that have always been 'good' continue to be so and the ones not so well thought of the same.

The best advice to the OP is therefore, look at all the admissions criteria and locate accordingly, and keep up to date with any changes. There are plenty of good options Smile.

OP have a look at the tables on the Surrey CC website that show admissions against PAN, this is more helpful in seeing if you would actually get into a given school as most round here don't have catchment areas, this is available for both primary and secondary schools, good luck!
