Tradesmen next door

Hi, a couple of tradesmen appear to be eyeing up some work on next door's guttering. We are terraced so the same guttering continues in to mine, but the only downpipe is on their property. I am keen to maintain my original wooden guttering.

I have two concerns I'd like to hear your thoughts on.

Firstly, they appear to be discussing accessing the work from my front garden. I feel a bit nervous about allowing this, I spoke to them a couple of weeks ago and didn't get good vibes.

Secondly, is there anything I should do to ensure my guttering is not damaged by them?

you have wooden guttering? What country are you in?

RedMapleLeaf · 30/10/2015 12:48

England.

Well, I went out to speak to them. On going up the ladder they decided that next door's guttering did not need replacing. The roof tiles need a bit of work and they're going to re-lead the join between our guttering.

They were a little bossy at first, telling me that they were going to do X and Y and I gently said, "No, you're going to ask me if you can come and do X and Y". We repeated this three times in fact.

Aw thanks ginger I seem to have got away with it but the neighbour on the other side hasn't been so lucky.

I am in a northern city, house about 100 years old, wooden guttering is fairly standard here Confused .

I've never heard of wooden guttering before! Am amazed it has survived 100 years of water rushing through it.

RedMapleLeaf · 30/10/2015 18:35

Well, it's like window frames, you have to keep painting it.

I had wooden guttering on my last house. Lasted over 100 years until it tipped all the rain into the walls.

I like the sound of wooden guttering ,not so sure I'd like painting it though !

I thought the guttering on this house was wooden but actually it was cast iron. Until it came down in the bad winter a few years back.
