increasing width of access and implications for backland development

Our semi is next to a detached house which has a brick garage built on to a side wall . Our only access to our garden is down a passage between the flank wall of our house and the side of the garage .

The garage is due to be knocked down to allow access to a back plot where 2 houses will be built . Earlier applications for 3,4 ,and 6 houses were refused because of loss of amenity to both us and the detached house and inadequacy of access - the road will be slightly under 3 metres wide as it passes between the houses .

Permission was granted when the nos of houses was reduced to 2 as it was argued that the amount of traffic would be minimal and the access road therefore adequate and loss of amenity not significant .

The approved plans include a 2 metre high brick wall along the boundary and in place of the side wall of the garage with access to the rear of our house remaining down the narrow ( 2'6") passage that currently exists between our house wall and the garage wall>
For several reasons we would like to suggest that the new wall and the new entrance gate to the road is pulled back from the front of both houses .

We would want the boundary marked and would need kerbs and /or hinged parking posts but I am concerned that in opening up the 3 metre pinch point by not having the brick wall we may then see a planning resubmission for an increased number of houses .

If anyone can follow my attempt to describe the situation and has any views I'd be very grateful .
