How much would you expect to pay for this?

Have just had a bit of work done by a friend who is a tradesman. Foolishly didn't get a price before he started and am a bit shocked at the invoice. I'm not expecting mates rates, but it seems expensive.

How much would you expect to pay for the following? Labour only, materials were paid upfront:

• laminate flooring laid in living room (4x4m-ish) and hallway.
• skirting in same rooms plus architrave on 2 sides of 1 doorway.
• guy did 3 days 8am-2pm/2:30pm and 1 'finishing up' day doing a bit of caulking and he text me at 11am asking what he should do with the key when he leaves so assume half of normal 6-6.5hr day?

£450 max.

£500 ish.

400-500. depends on how big your hallway is.

We paid most of our trades around £20 an hour for our refurb so assuming 2 x 7 hour days and 1 x 4 hours I'd say around £360.

8am til 2pm = 6 hours. X 3 days = 18 hours.

Plus a short day 8am til 11am = 3 hours.

Therefore 21 hours total.

I would be happy to pay £525 for that (21 x £25). Am in London.

Might grumble a bit but would pay up £630 (21 hours x £30).

Tradesman tend to charge about 150 a day labour around here so about 500

Ah ok, so maybe I'm being a bit cheap then. Was £415, which works out to just under £20 an hour (£120/day).

But if that seems about the going rate then fair enough. I think the short days just made me think it would be a bit less.

Yep - you got a good deal there! What did you think you should pay?

I'm not sure Mintyy tbh. Normally my dad would have done all of our woodwork but my parents have recently moved away so maybe having to pay anything just seems irrationally expensive.

He really has done a brilliant job though (better than my dad would have done) and now I've thought about it it's a more than fair price. He has to pay tax, NI, replacement/upkeep of his tools/van etc.
