BT master socket thing , does it cost a fortune to get it moved?

Ours is next to the front door in the hall. Modem and wires perched on ugly little homemade shelf.

would like it to be moved ..any idea of prices for this ?

Iirc only BT(Openreach) can do it as it's their property. Probably around the price of an engineer visit so £140-170 ish. You can get an electrician (or buy a diy kit) to fit extensions though which would be less. These can reduce the speed of your broadband though (especially if you're rural/already suffer issues), so be prepared to disconnect (easy diy job) if you have to do fault diagnostics.

We had ours moved from an upstairs bedroom to downstairs sitting room for £150 last year by BT.

we had ours replaced by BT when they replaced the outside cable. They didn't move it, but on their suggestion we ran a phone cable (i.e. very low power) from it under the carpet to the point in the hall where the phone sits. A second cable runs to another room to the broadband hub.

it all works fine and we've changed suppliers since; and we are sort of rural.

so you may not need to bother moving it.

had ours moved for free, the last owner damaged it when leaving, so asked BT to put it some where of our choice

Ours is like this! Drapes ugly bloody wires all down the wall. we are too tight to pay for it to be moved
