Dream houses. How do you actually get them?

I live in an area where everyone fights for a house. Demand outstrips supply massively. Everything goes to sealed bids, and no one is prepared to put up with a long chain, or long wait

So, it's impossible to find a dream house, as you generally have to just take whats on offer. Even then, it's a cat fight until he finish.

So, how do you actually buy a dream house? It's always talked about on here. But we have to grab what we can

...where I live. No one I know has a dream house, they all have an Ok house which was the only one available at the time.

For the dream house in the UK, You're either earning lots and lots, or you get a big fat inheritance. Or you're a money laundering foreign crime lord.

If you are like me, you can work from home, and it doesn't actually matter where on the planet you live check out the properties in France. You can buy an actual castle for under £400k.

A castle.

Or like a massive mansion with land, and your own lake and extra guesthouse for, like, £300k.

check out www.my-french-house.com/

Or the Welsh boarder.

I'm looking for our family dream home as we speak!

Not all areas are in as high demand and if your 'dream' home doesn't exist or isn't available, you change one or buy land and build your own.

We found - and subsequently lost - our 'dream house' a few years ago. It was neither a mansion nor a castle, but a very naice, untouched (ie, with many original features in tact) 1880s, detached house of some 3500 sq ft of which only three had been built, on the south coast.

The following year I mentioned this in passing to an acquaintance and it transpired her FIL owned the house next door which he was thinking of selling. Took some time but eventually we secured a private sale. House was in dire condition - four flats, DSS tenants that had trashed the place and less original features - but the basic layout was the same and eventually after several years of blood, sweat & tears we had our dream house. Then we sold it Hmm

It depends what you mean my dream house as everyone's dream is different. It is very subjective.
For one person a 2 bed mid terrace could be their dream house whilst another person would see a 7 bed house with swimming pool and 2 acres of land as their dream house.
I have a 4 double bed Victorian semi and for me it is my dream house as I would be happy to live here forever. Our garden is a little small (but huge by London standards) but the house suits us perfectly. Even if I won a million pounds tomorrow I wouldn't want to move to another house.
We didn't get this house instantly, we had two houses previously which were just stop gap houses. We built up a bit of equity and were able to move to our current house and do a bit of work on it to make it perfect for us.
