Narrow kitchen layout?

I love [[South Hill Road, Bromley, Kent
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-36155433.html this house]] except for the kitchen. I wanted a kitchen with an island ideally but it wouldn't fit in the current layout. Doe anyone have a long narrow kitchen and is it comfortable to cook in? Is there any other way to configure the rooms?

I don't like that layout out because you'd have to walk through the sitting room to get to the kitchen!

I don't think its particularly narrow - it seems that way because its so long - makes it narrower than it is, and the fact that at the end with the door to the utility room, it has cabinets on each side. I think if you had shallow cabinets on one wall, it would make it feel wider. I don't think you're going to get an island unit unless you do some serious rejigging of the layout. Lovely house though!

Have you been to view the property? It's a beautiful house. Judging by the photos and the tiles on the floor the floorspace in the kitchen is about 1.8m wide which isn't very thin to be honest. Maybe if you actually go and stand in it you'll feel the space better.

I've just changed the location of my kitchen and it necessitated it being a galley style. I was a bit sceptical about how well it would work but I did a big batch of baking a couple of days ago (the first since I've had it fitted) and it worked brilliantly. I think as long as you keep your fridge, sink, cooker (work triangle) close together you would be fine.

Looking at the pictures and depending on how much stuff you have I think you could do a galley with an island at the end near the conservatory but it's difficult to tell because there aren't any dimensions on the floor plan. Don't know what kind of budget you have but have you considered knocking through the kitchen to make a really big open plan space, you could have any kitchen layout you wanted then?

I think that kitchen looks great. And that conservatory and garden-gorgeous.

The kitchen has ample counter space, and plenty of room.

We are going to view at the weekend. It's above our budget so if our offer gets accepted we wouldn't be able to make any major changes (and probably not a new kitchen for a good few years). There is a stove on the other side of the kitchen so don't really want to knock the wall through.

it's lovely

I have a kitchen island, and though it's really handy, you do walk round it a hundred times a day Grin

It looks lovely and the kitchen doesn't look too narrow.

With my practical head on, is the sitting room open to the kitchen which is open to the vast glass heat dump conservatory?

I love conservatories and the natural light but thats a lot of glass area open to the rest of the downstairs. Might be worth checking the heating bills.

Another one saying it works as it is (although I would probably extend the shorter run of units and get rid of the sticky-out bit with the sink). Islands are extremely over-rated, imo.

This isn't a narrow kitchen!
Im my last house I could touch both walls at once!

It was a ball ache to be fair but the one good thing about it was that I could stand at the cooker and reach everything I needed without having to take one step.

The house is well done and doesn't look like it needs changing. I'd say don't even try to change the kitchen as they've planned it for the space.

I'd also be worried about the conservatory although the description does sound like making sure it's warm has been a consideration. I can't believe they approved the photo of it with someone visible though!
