Dishwasher filling, then draining, then beeping

Hello,

My eight year old Whirlpool integrated dishwasher is failing me. It starts it's cycle by draining (as it should), filling but then drains straight away and beeps. When opened, the start button is flashing and it has automatically switched itself to the prewash programme. It is draining properly so no obvious blockage.

Any suggestions? Or is it doomed?

Google is your friend. I had this one Christmas Eve but can't remember what it was. Trouble shooter was pretty accurate on Internet and instructions for fixing worked. Plus it got me out of a game of monopoly so was all good!

Google make/model/problem :-)

Hello, I have googled but haven't found anything helpful that's not too technical. As it's integrated I can't just pull it out to fiddle with.

Is it worth repairing a dishwasher this old? Would it be cheaper getting a new one?

The cheapest thing to do first would be to clean all the filters you can dig out from the bottom and use a dishwasher de scaler cleaner and try a couple of cycles on hot cycle. Also disconnect the dishwasher from the mains and start it off again after a few minutes - a bit like a computer, have you still got the manual (or find it online for your model) there should be a page for troubleshooting.

Hi Iwantakitchen, trouble is, it won't start it's cycle as it drains itself after it fills so I can't clean it on a hot wash. All of the visible filters are clean. I have the troubleshooting manual, but doesn't include this problem. I hate home appliances.

count the beeps and flashes. Sometimes appliances indicate what the fault is, by the number of beeps or flashes.

For example "beep beep beep" (pause) "beep beep beep"
three beeps = blocked pump
four beeps = heater not working
or whatever

In this case there should be a decoder in the manual
