Walk-in shower (tiled floor as opposed to shower tray)

We've had an offer accepted on a house that has a huge bathroom. Has potential to be really lovely once it's had some work done, and I'm thinking it would be nice to have a freestanding bath and large walk-in shower with the same tiles as on the rest of the floor. I've been reading this board for long enough to imagine the horrified reaction from PigletJohn Shock and talk of how if the drain got blocked we'd have to demolish the entire house, or similar. But they look so pretty!

Has anyone done similar? Or is it a really stupid idea?

Rather than getting a tiled walk in, you can get shower trays cut in stone slab to match your tiles.

They have fast flow drain which you can partially remove so you can get your hand or rod in if your 3yo decided to post socks, comforter or cotton wool down there.

And because there are no grout line to maintain or worry about, it not only looks seamless but you don't have the worry that it will leak or seep when the grout wears away (which can be an issue with tiled walk in)

Posted too soon. Photos are two such showers in bathrooms I designed.

My walk in shower is 4 foot by 4 foot : we lifted it a couple of inches to make the drains easier
and we went overboard on the tanking board and tape
but 7 years on we've had no problems.
Wall tiles are big rectangular ones
and the floor tiles are this mybuildingshop.com/images/Porcelain_Pebble_Mosaic_Tiles/PEMT024.jpg
we love it

We had a walk in shower room/wet room done downstairs 2 years ago, not a whole bathroom . We have a shaped shower tray 'former' which was covered, along with the rest of the floor, with industrial flooring designed for public spaces,(polyflor) which goes up the wall ( you need to have a specialist fit it) - its like very fancy lino :). Walls and ceiling then covered by multi panel , not tiles, and we had a simple glass screen as its only a small room, and didn't want water splashing on the toilet seat!. I love it.

We had a walk in shower built about 5 years ago. The floor is lined with a wet room membrane/tanking stuff, then tiled on top. The drain is in the middle of the shower under the shower head and the tiles cut to form a slight slope towards it. I would take a photo but it needs cleaning. The shower is built into the corner of the room so we have 2 tiled walls (which have also been lined) and 1 glass screen. It's great to have the space to stand and help did shampoo her hair etc..

Really helpful, thanks all. It's encouraging to learn that people have done this without needing to demolish their entire house when things go wrong....!

our shower door is a bath screen : 3/4 height like this aicabathrooms.co.uk/4fold-800-x-1400mm-folding-shower-glass-bath-screen-p-2168.html
so it did not have to fit the gap exactly Smile
