Getting rid of damp smell?

House has been on the market for a few days and we had our first couple of viewings this weekend. Just got feedback and one of them has said one if the rooms smelled of damp. We get occasional damp/mould in the room as its the side of the house exposed to the weather and the house is 100 years old. We've treated the wall and I've cleaned. No one else has mentioned a smell in the room. But just in case it's not just the viewers extra sensitive nose are there any suggestions for getting rid of a musty smell?

ventilation.

But perhaps the gutter or downpipe on that side is spilling.

Or it might be a leak from a tank or pipe in the loft, or from a radiator, or an adjacent bathroom.

I assume there is no wet washing draped around so it should not be condensation unless there is a water source such as a leak.

This sounds odd, but since I've swapped to a real bar of soap, my shower room no longer smells of damp towels. I recommend Palmolive soap with almond milk. There are 3 bars to a packet from the pound shop. Just unwrap one and put it under the bed, behind a cupboard etc.

At least the room will smell clean Smile

Thanks, will check the outside if the house. We've got a dehumidifier so will run that for a day or so.

Keep the room will heated and ventilated. Goes against the grain, but you need heating on and window open, I think.
A non-offensive plug-in air freshener might help too.

We had this complaint from people looking at a house we were selling, so I went to our local hardware store and bought a tub of a compound that absorbs water (Damp Rid) and a tub of air freshener beads. It fixed the issue for us.

John Lewis sell "damp absorbers" there in the home section m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-mini-moisture-trap-dehumidifier/p217793#page_loaded
