What would you do if these were your doors and skirting board

I'm rubbish at home interior stuff so in need of ideas. I like modern smart stuff.
Photo shows my doors and skirting boards through out the house. They are stained and downstairs doors have smoked glass panels with wierd squiggles on.

I don't mind wood, but the shade isn't right for me (think I'd prefer lighter).
Is it going to be easy to paint (prob white) or stain a Different shade? Or would it be easier to get new doors and boards?

Open to ideas...

You can paint the doors and skirting board relatively easily. Re-staining lighter would be basically impossible

Ok so to paint (white) I would need to sand then paint?
Would also want to change handles - is this straight forward too?

I wouldn't paint them they look nice. The amount of work involved in re-painting chipped gloss is a nightmare.

Changing handles is easy. Painting them is relatively easy (although time consuming). How much more 'modern' it will make them look is debatable...

You can also buy new doors relatively cheaply online, especially if you want something very simple. But I'd suggest having a pro hang them - that is tricky.

They would look lovely painted grey with plain opaque glass put in and new stainless steel handles. Quicker to replace though.

Changing the knobs for ones which match the light switches would help. The glass is opaque rather than smoked, which would be grey or brown or even yellow in colour.

If you want to paint wood or old gloss without lots of hideous sanding buy some Zinsser BIN primer. It's amazing! Google it for lots of info and reviews.
