Are in a quandry as to what to do, have left it too late to make use of green deal so not sure what is going to be best for the house as there seems so much conflicting information on whats the most economic way to heat your house.

House is a three bed terrace with a couple of storage heaters, I think some houses in the road have gas but this property I dont think has a point in it.

don't worry about missing out on the green deal, there was a reason the take up was so low.

electricity is the most efficient but also the most expensive per unit. Oil is currently cheapest per unit but that can of course change.

if there's a gas main on the road your first job is to get a quote for connecting you up. Then you start getting quotes for installing a boiler and a system.

now is not the time to do this as the gas men move from install mode to repair mode. Kick it off in the spring. Ensure you use people who are on the gas safe register (Check) and be prepared for a lot of pain getting quotes.

cheers special, I have been finding it hard to navigate a way through all these options as all seem to have pros and cons, that equalise them.

Do you know anything about these infrared heat panels?

no. But electricity is electricity is electricity, and there are no magic electric heaters that generate more heat than any other for the same kwH.

the other extremely important thing is insulation, and you can get weaving with that over the winter.

I'd go for gas, I've rented houses with no gas and it's miserable.

It might be pricey short term but it will cost less to run.
