PigletJohn v JoeMalone...is there a power struggle?

I have spotted two threads this morning in which JoeMalone contradicts the sainted PigletJohn. Is there something going on?? (desperately searching for more evidence)

If I remember correctly PigletJohn is sort of like Lara Croft.

I think he's more like this, BSites, but with a spanner not a hammer ....

Another vote for PigletJohn, if he wrote a book I would buy it.

PigletJohn - v interested in your rising damp opinion. We have a damp/salts patch on the inside of our external kitchen wall. I would have assumed that was rising damp...? Hat would you assume? Rubbish mortar in that wall, or something like that?

PigletJohn · 03/10/2015 21:54

damp in a kitchen is very often associated with plumbing or drainage leaks.

Have you got a water meter?

Is there a gully outside?

Is it a concrete floor?

Where is ground level in relation to the DPC?

austenozzy · 03/10/2015 22:23

Boom! Piglet John knocks it out of park! What a legend! ??

austenozzy · 03/10/2015 22:24

Smiley fail. Doh.

fufulina · 04/10/2015 07:34

Thanks piglet. We have a water meter. Concrete floor. DPC is above the floor, as far as I can tell. No gullies.

Stupid question alert; why have a damp prof course at all if rising damp isn't an issue?

PigletJohn · 04/10/2015 10:54

Turn off all the taps. Get a torch and look at the water meter. Is the bubble in the middle still moving?

Do any pipes or drains go through the floor near the damp patch? Is there wet under the sink, washer etc?
