Sink on island kitchen assistance please

I’d really like this Ikea double domsjo sink on my island www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S79931650/ but I’m planning quite a slimline island so, 210cm wide and 70cm deep. The domsjo is 66cm deep so only got a tiny bit of worktop behind it. Am I going to end up with a ridiculous situation whereby water splashes off the back of the island? Has anyone done similar with a big sink like this? Do I need some more worktop space behind the sink, or even a little raised bit of worktop, like a mini splashback, or would that just look crap. Would love assistance, or any feedback on the domsjo sink. I’m such an amateur at all this Confused
Thank you

You can have that sink sitting forward a little, so that might help a bit ! - splash back from the taps increases with stronger water pressure - what's your water pressure like ?!?!

Ah, thanks OnePlan. OUr water pressure is not exactly brilliant, which might work out well. A friend told me that big sinks tend to splash less, so hoping that's the case.

We have a sink in our kitchen island (inherited from last owners) and my word of caution would be to think about how prompt you are at washing up! I find that if you have a couple of bits on the side which you need to hand wash etc, the fact they're slap bang in the middle of the kitchen makes it look more messy than if they were on a countertop. Particularly if your island is small, it will look cluttered quite fast if you don't stay on top of it.

Sorry - not the advice you were looking for but I wouldn't put a sink on an island now if I were planning a kitchen because of this!

What BoutrosBoutros said. Sinks are magnets for mess. Stuff waiting to be washed. Stuff draining post wash. Stuff that didn't fit in the dishwasher that someone is contemplating washing up but hasn't. I'd avoid sink on island at all too.

@jane077

I don't have an island, but just wanted to check if you had considered the plumbing required to connect to your sink. The cost will vary from property, but can be very expensive, so thought I'd mention it.

With deeper sinks you might be able to 'hide' a full sink of bits. With a chopping block over the sink ! With might ease the situation a little mentioned and endorsed by boutros and pootle !

I've given this advice before because it really has helped me but if you are going to put your sink on your island and you want to keep clutter away I would also make sure you can plumb in your dishwasher next to it. It is much easier of loading/unloading too.

Jane077 · 29/09/2015 10:03

Thanks Boutros. The plan is by having a big double Belfast sink i'll be able to hide all the clutter. but point very much taken. Yes, fabtigger I have thought cost-wise. We are doing major kitchen refurb so builders say it's ok. Susyrut - yes great advice about dishwasher. Going to have it next to sink.
