Eltham or Welling

Hello, we are planning to buy a house (we are living in a flat near Canary Wharf area) in Eltham / Welling area. Does anyone know about these areas? Eltham seems a bigger town and has a London postcode. Welling seems to be a nice area for kids, but I heard that it is not really good for the teenagers.
Some people say that people in Kent is more conservative and it is more boring in Welling.

We originally looked into welling when we moved and i can say i wasn't impressed when i looked there.

I moved from Edmonton, North London (which is an extremely rough area) last year and we looked all around welling, Bexlyheath and Eltham. I can defiantly say welling is better than Edmonton, if you go a little bit further out it's much better than Edmonton.

Eltham is quite nice, depending on your budget i'd probably go more Bexlyheath. We looked at some nice flats in Bexlyheath that were reasonable for the size.

I live near Orpington, which is a great town especially if you want to commute to London, although it's zine 6 you can easily get to London bridge within 45 mins. But the houses are dramatically different to welling. I plan to stay near Orpington because the schools are very good and house prices are fairly reasonable.

The closer you get to Bromley the less boring it gets!

Hope that helps

Eltham is rather nice. Good parks, Eltham Palace, High Street is having a facelift with a large cinema coming, good schools (both primary and secondary). 30 mins to Victoria, 25 mins to Charing X, 20 to Cannon Street or a short bus trip to Lewisham to get on the DLR. It is great to have the choice of three different central London stations to get to. Also very easy to get onto the M20 for trips to Kent or over to France.

The High Street has everything you need - M&S, Lidl, Smiths, Next, Sainsbury's, Boots and even a small Debenhams. The leisure centre is great. Lots of nice Victorian terraces and 30's well-built properties.

Could do with a couple of good restaurants though.
