Sixties house: what banisters/newel posts/spindles?

We live in a lovely 60s semi. I'm not being sarcastic, I love it: fab proportions, loads of light, original parquet floor. It's great. However, there's not that much left in the way of original features. Hall, stairs and landing are the next job to tackle. Current banisters, newel posts and spindles are mock Victorian, you know, quite carved with big knobs (fnar). Any ideas what the original ones might have looked like? Or suggestions for what might work instead? Struggling a bit to work out what to do with the stairs that is a bit more in keeping. TY!

Ranch style is typical sixties. Where the slats run parallel to the handrail

It's not very pretty though

They tend to be very simple straight square spindles or as the pp stated. Can you have a look at any of your neighbour's houses - they may have the originals.

I agree with wow, it's probably worth looking at some of your neighbours' houses first. But, as an alternative, how about a contemporary stainless steel and glass look?

Solid screen rather than banisters.. Everyone boxed them in duringt he 60s. Less offensive than ranch style too.
