We can't proceed, can we? Apparently, it reduces viewings by 60% and that's before factoring in health issues etc. So disappointed.... Can't believe I was talking about naming it yesterday!

Nobody would buy that, would they? Or am I being over dramatic

What is a "hydro field" ?

amarmai · 16/09/2015 17:37

a long line of giant pylons carrying heavy duty electricity thru a city

FluffyCubs · 16/09/2015 17:43

Clearly on this thread I'm in a minority in being unwilling to sleep metres from a substation.

Does anybody who actually works in this area think that I'm overreacting? It's not at the bottom of my garden, it's right underneath the bedroom window... I really wouldn't be so bothered if it was at the bottom of the garden

I can't say I have ever seen a "long line of giant pylons carrying heavy duty electricity" through a city.

In my city all these cables are underground- perhaps under where many of us are living.

FluffyCubs · 16/09/2015 17:45

I'm finding it hard to say goodbye to the house...

(And yes I phoned manweb who said it's even there since the sixties... And would cost ££££ to move.)

everything anyone says on these forums is an assertion without evidence and those assertions come from the knowledge/experience of the person making them. e.g. your many assertions re property maintenance.

Ta1kinPeace · 16/09/2015 17:49

a long line of giant pylons carrying heavy duty electricity thru a city
Do you have a picture of one in the UK
as its not something I recognise.

Fluffy
If you get it cheap and sell it cheap you'll still make the same margin
and everything else about it is right.

Mentally file that building underground and enjoy your dream house.
You know you want to Grin

specialsubject · 16/09/2015 17:51

no, the link I put up was full of evidence.

science - true whether you believe it or not. Maddening, isn't it?

BTW you are on the internet. So you are using electricity and may even be in a wi-fi field. Don't you think that is dangerous?

amarmai · 16/09/2015 18:30

not uk
no pictures
they exist in Canada and Stats Canada has published studies of deaths of infants related to these hydro fields
i don't know why i should continue answering your doubting questions , as you then question the answer . Probably if i could post a picture, you would question the picture, since you appear to be determined not t o accept any information that does not fall in line with your assertions. But it's not my job to debate you- so assert away!

specialsubject · 16/09/2015 19:02

aha - Canuck speak, hydrofield is what the UK calls a line of pylons. Thank you wikipedia.

underground cabling is indeed less unsightly and means the birds don't crash into them - all for that - and also more reliable in extreme weather conditions. But you do of course get e-fields from underground cables, and you will be closer to them. So I take it your house has no electric supply? By your logic, it would be just as unsafe.

Yes, I will question your 'assertions' because they have no credible evidence. There are NO credible studies with sufficiently big samples to have any statistical validity.

amarmai · 16/09/2015 19:41

and i question your assertion that there are NO credible studies etc----

PigletJohn · 16/09/2015 19:54

show us some then.

Here is the website www.statcan.gc.ca/start-debut-eng.html
show us the evidence ....
just that my search skills found nothing on their under the category "hydro field"
and this table
www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/84f0209x/2009000/t015-eng.htm
does not mention Hydro Fields

extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Lets see some of your evidence

ALittleFaith · 16/09/2015 20:52

I grew up in a house next to a substation. It never caused us any bother over than having to send my Dad over the fence for balls we lost!

BernardsBum · 16/09/2015 21:02

Hello FluffyCubs. I work in the industry. It's a distribution substation that will provide power to the local houses. It will house a transformer, some switches & fuses. Power comes in at 11,000 volts & leaves at 230V.
As regards planning permission, yes you may need permission now for a new one, but that looks fairly old - Manweb will either own the land or rent it from the land owner (poss local authority).
Those substations will generally only be relocated if the Distributor is told to get off the land.
It shouldn't be noisy - if it is, there is something wrong & Manweb should fix it.
And yes, I would live next door to one. Better than some other neighbours!

amarmai · 16/09/2015 22:16

who do you order around in RL ? Thought so .

Ta1kinPeace · 16/09/2015 22:23

amarmai
The OP had concerns which hopefully some of the information posted on this thread (not assertions, not opinions, cold hard published information) has allayed.

You are making quite astounding claims about there being high voltage power pylons in cities and of those as yet unidentified pylons killing babies.

Extraordinary Claims require Extraordinary Evidence : basic science.

Please tell us that you have decided to buy your dream home at a dreamy price Smile

FluffyCubs · 17/09/2015 07:00

Hi TalkinPeace, I've had to walk away sadly. The house has been on the market for a year, which is unusual where we live. Thought it was due to the eighties brookside-era décor combined with Tudor style furniture, and the house was very dark (no problem, right? bam bam bam new French doors everywhere).

On seeing the ss, we can't proceed because if we move again, it will be because of DH job and we wont have the luxury of hanging out with it on the market. That is our biggest concern, actually. Resale risk.

And we don't actually know what will come out in terms of future research.

OP posts:
Ta1kinPeace · 17/09/2015 07:36

Ah well, at least you'll look at all other houses with a differently informed viewpoint Smile

And yes, speed of potential sale is a real issue

  • I suspect the dark inside is tougher on them than the hut
