Packing house for move and feeling exhausted. How do I muster the energy?

That is all.

I can't decide if I'm lazy or genuinely just shattered after the lead up to this day (fraught selling process).

Any tips to help me focus and get a bloody move on?

Removal people arrive at 9am tomorrow!

Don't take clothes out of drawers to pack. Just remove drawers from the unit, stack them in the removal van, then it's easier to shift the empty unit.

Clothes on hangers can be taken out, laid on the back seat of the car, and hung straight back up again in the new house.

Get a marker pen and label boxes with room/contents so you know where to put it in the new house, and wether to bother unpacking it right away!

Unfasten the poppers on the quilts and stuff in the bed sheet, pillows and pj's, then stick that in the back of the car. That way it's all together, and you can make sorting beds the first job in the new house (nobody wants to arse about making beds at midnight after a move.)

Reward your efforts with a takeaway - keep the menu in your bag so you can find it easily!

Do a room at a time, so if you're still packing when the removal people arrive you can direct them to all the finished rooms.

Flowers Ipswich. That's a good start! Fab ideas there - clothes on back of card seat is great.

At the moment I'm wading through paperwork sorting out old birthday cards from potentially important paperwork I might need to keep. Am realising I should have made a start on this weeks ago. Is that what everyone else does!

Progress is not good Sad

Erm yeah, I think at this point you need to just be moving, not sorting
I'd whack it all in a box labelled 'paperwork' now and sort it at the other end

Blue yes, that's a good idea.

Part of me thinks oh god, I'm paying a man to lug loads of old paperwork to our new house that just needs throwing away. But I guess at this stage it's too late to worry about that!

I'm due to move next week and I'm already getting panicky. I had a thread about getting organised a few weeks ago which had some fab tips but with less than 24 hours to go, I think you just need to focus on packing it/making it easily transportable.

I plan on to pack everything immediately essential...so, the bedding, clothes for a few days, basic toiletries, kettle, critical paperwork etc into my car so that it doesn't get lost among the stuff on the removal van.

Drugs. Legal ones like caffeine obviously. amphetamines

We bought a house and vendors hadn't even started packing by time I walked the 100 yards to their house at about 10am to enquire if they'd heard from solicitors about money changing hands. We were hoping to move in by 2pm money permitting. I ended up helping them move. As did their removal people, our removal people, the estate agent and Tom Cobley. The vendors of course couldn't do anything due to a fit of the vapours. So you are well ahead of them so don't fret! Good luck with the move.

Thanks petts goodness, yes - I would never inflict that on our buyers. I reckon we're about 85% packed now. Just so many fiddly bits left! I've also just been scrubbing the hob till it shines!

Harlett that's a shame I missed that thread. For next time! there will never be a next time

Ignore anything I said. FishWithABicycle has given you your plan A.

I'm stocking up in preparation for next week

I sometimes find it easier to work to a tight deadline, as it stops me faffing. Plus you kinda have no choice but to muster the energy & at least you know the torture of packing won't last too much longer now, seeing as you'll be all moved tomorrow. Just one last push and your done!

ReallyNotAMorningPerson · 13/09/2015 23:40

Thanks rose yes it's come done to the 'just have no choice left but to pack now' pressure.

Wish I was more organised though. Removal men will be greeted by me scrabbling around with random plastic bags of last minute tat. Oh well! Onwards...
