How would I paint a waxed pine dresser?

Trying to reduce the volume of pine in our house and would like to paint a dresser but am not sure how to go about it. Do you put some sort of undercoat on to deal with the wax or sand it down? Any advice gratefully received!

I would sand it down, then undercoat and topcoat. What sort of colour and look were you after, I like the ole shabby chic, sand parts to reveal whatever colour underneath.

Chalk paint. No rubbing, sanding or prep required. Just paint it on, might need a couple of coats, wax it, distress with wire wool if you are looking for the 'shabby' look, then another couple of coats of wax to seal. I did a pine coffee table a couple of weeks ago and it looks great. And I'm crap at diy!

If you use chalk paint then there is no need to sand it down or use undercoat first

Any chance of a pic Napoleon?

Yep, hang on and I'll find one

Here it is. Only took me a day to completely finish it too.

I used Rustoleum as it's a lot cheaper than Annie Sloan. I've got a chest of drawers to do next and I'm going to experiment with a darker coat underneath first. I used less than half a tin to do the table, even giving it three coats. So it is quite an economical way of updating stuff. Think the paint was £14.99 and the wax about £12.

Napoleon that looks great.
