We need to move, is Liphook any good?

Hi,

A year ago we became a family of five, and we are now bursting out of our little terraced house in London. We can't afford to move into anything bigger in this area, or any area in London really.

We have seen some good looking houses in Liphook, but have come across lots of comments online about it being an awful place to live. Please can you give us the real picture of this area, what is it like to live here? What aare primary and secondary schools like? Would we be likely to suffer racism (my children are of mixed heritage).

I really need and appreciate your views.

Liphook is not a horrible place to live. My parents lived there for 15 years. I used to work there. The local secondary school Bohunt is a very good school. I don't know about Liphook Infant and Junior school but I assume they are good schools.
I would not think that your children would suffer from any racism either.

I think it's a lovely place to grow up in.

I live not far from liphook, we looked at houses and I fell in love with one there, you get a bit more for your money in liphook as its Hampshire side, but very near to West Sussex and (slightly more expensive surrey) we didn't get the house, someone else made a better offer, but we also found that trains from there weren't as frequent as they are to petersfield and haslemere which are either side on the train line. I think if either you or dp need to commute and there is a chance you will miss your regular train on a regular basis then it's worth considering peters field or haslemere as you have more train options. Other than commuting, lip hook is great, very good secondRy school, I really like the infant and primary school, they are (I think) ofsted good, but I thought they had a great vibe and felt really positive and engaging, and I'd have been delighted to send my DC there. Reasonable sized sainsburys, a few pubs, nice places to eat, (deers hut is lovely) park is good. easy access to a3. So much to like!

I grew up in Haslemere and I think it is more expensive there than Liphook (prob because as Red says the trains are more regular, bigger station car park, Surrey postcode etc). I had friends living in Liphook and I thought the village was lovely, always felt really safe and we still go to the Liphook Carnival every year when we visit my parents (a couple of years ago Hugh Bonneville opened it and some of the floats had paralympic medallists on them so it's quite a major event locally).

Just don't google Bohunt/Chinese school...

Oh and it used to have a lovely Nepalese restaurant which DH was addicted to.

Ha ha about bohunt/Chinese school. Thanks this helps a great deal. I love the idea of the Liphook carnival as we have a Christmas Parade thwt closes the high Street where we live now, and we love it. It's going to be hard to move since this is where we made our first home together.

Liphook is in Hart District Council which consistently comes out in the best places in the UK to live year after year.
Its a nice little town.
Enjoy.

HopeClearwater · 07/09/2015 23:34

It's not in Hart DC , Talkinpeace , it's in East Hampshire. Hart is Fleet and the surrounding area. Quite a long way away.

Sorry, yes, brain ache.
East Hants council are OK
