Spray painting chairs, can it be done?

I have two ercol windsor dining chairs that have been stripped. I want them white.

I have used Annie Sloan paint on other furniture, but wanted a more perfect sleek finish on the chairs.

The furniture spray paint company I contacted said it was too small a job for them (they do whole kitchens) and suggested I could do it myself.

Has anyone tried to do this with spray paint cans? Is it possible?

If not does anyone know anywhere South oxon/bucks who would do it?

Any advice appreciated.

You can spray paint chairs, use a spray primer first, and after spray painting you can varnish (use spray varnish too, no drips) to make the finish more glossy and durable. In the middle of doing this myself but hope to spray, decoupage, varnish and then sell.

Yes, gives a good finish if you do lots of very thin coats, if you try to spray thickly you will get runs.

Can be messy though, and best to wear a mask.

Oh gosh, that sounds like there is massive potential for me to cock it up. I wish I could find someone to spray them for me.

It's not difficult really, you just have to take your time. My first attempts worked well.

We sprayed some old Lloyd Loom bits that were a "lovely fuchsia" colour. As stepsharp says, many thin layers work best. Spray and don't be tempted to do a bit more where it doesn't look like it covered it.

Thank you all. I think I will have a go on something that doesn't matter and then get a practice before doing my lovely chairs.
