Good home alarm and CCTV systems?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good burglar alarm/ CCTV company? I would like a CCTV system to monitor the drive and perhaps a home alarm system. I've never had any kind of alarm/security before though, so I have no idea what to choose!

I would like a one-off payment without any monitoring costs. A few of my friends have alarms with sensors in every room that trigger the alarm. As I have a person in my family with SEN who often comes to stay, I would rather not have this as they are prone to getting up early before me and wandering around the house - thus triggering the alarm if it is set at night!! Are there any alarms that have minimal sensors - for example, triggers on doors or windows?

I am a novice with anything like this so I would be grateful if you could share any recommendations you have.

cant help mush on the alarm as ours is still to be fitted, there are a lot of options on whether you should go for a wired or wireless system, both have pros and cons, worth a google, a lot of folk on our street have gone for yale wireless systems . I used CCTV42 for our cctv, they supply good quality kit, not the cheapest but the picture quality is good, they have some very good advice on choosing systems and cameras - worth a read

I would try a reputable local alarm/ security company. I had one who came to my house and fitted mine for £650 and I have 5 sensors, a thing on the front door to check if it's opened and a key fob. The man who fitted it asked me lots of questions to ascertain what would work for me and what wouldn't (eg did I have pets that could potentially set the sensor off). Mine is a wired system.

I would NOT recommend locked up security.

Why not locked up? Have seen them at home shows...

I believe it's non ethnical company with bulling tactics, lots of elderly conned out of thousands. Also they don't have many approvals such as NSI, NACOSS, UKAS. Can't say to much without outing myself but avoid at all costs!!

I would go local as well. Most systems have different settings so you can just have 'outside doors', 'outside doors and sensors', outside doors, sensors and pressure pads' etc.

Sometimes it's easier not to have the sensors on at night for wandering pets and houseguests.....
