Thinking about moving to Wonston, Winchester

Hi, I currently live in London with my husband and 5 year old DD, we are planning a move to a village somewhere outside Winchester and a place in Wonston has come up for sale. Just wanted some advice on Wonston, to see if anyone lives there/ knows what it is like? Naturally we would be keen to know if other young families live there. I'm conscious it's really small, but that wouldn't matter if there are other friendly families there (especially as we have an only child). Thanks for any advice offered!

It's a beautiful place. I'm very familiar with winchester which is literally minutes in the car and has everything you need. I used to work in Crawley Village. The whole area is gorgeous. Lucky you! Smile

Thanks so much BeautifulBatman, we are also looking at Crawley village, would you recommend it for a young family? We are looking for somewhere with a great sense of community. thanks :-)

Crawley Village itself is lovely - very expensive and I'm not sure how many young families there are there now - it is a rather aged village really but so beautiful. Stockbridge is worth a look too. Wonston would be perfect for you I think though. Rural enough but 5 mins from a beautiful city.

Hi, my DW and I live in South Wonston (a slightly larger village about 30 seconds away) and the area is lovely. Wonston itself is very small, and there are likely to be a few families around, but most I would imagine would be older. The great advantage is, as others have said, its moments into Winchester, which is a lovely place, plus its really well connected with the rest of the country, as its close to the A34, A303 and M3. Theres a nursey and primary school in south wonston, a few really good parks, village greens, outdoor gyms etc. Moving straight out of London could mean you'd feel a bit isolated, but with the number of kids and parents clubs around, and Winchester minutes down the road, it shouldn't be a problem if you drive.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comments BB and SJGW. Someone said Chilbolton is lovely too, do you know it?

I think I'll be driving into Winchester for school drop off every day, so I am hoping that will mean I'm out and about and won't feel too isolated as I'm conscious it will be quite a change from being able to walk everywhere (although have heard hairy things about traffic in the morning...!)

SJGW, I have noticed there is a community run pub in Wonston, don't suppose you have been/heard anything about it by any chance? Thanks so much :-)

Chilbolton is gorgeous! There's a beautiful common with a stream that is very popular for picnics, paddling, dogs etc. Just lovely. A nice village pub and another gorgeous pub called the Mayfly which sits on the river banks. Very popular in summer as you can imagine. Just done from Chilbolton is Leckford. A farming village which is the main supplier for waitrose I believe. Then you've got Stockbridge (nice), Andover (not so nice but not terrible), Romsey, Winchester and Salisbury within 20 mins max.
