Would you buy this house?

We found a house we liked last week, put an offer in and had it accepted. It ticks a lot of boxes, reasonably spacious, good price, close to good schools, close to a playground.

We went to have a look around the area this afternoon, which generally seems nice. As we came back to where we'd parked by the house, we could hear loud, bangy music coming from the house two down from the one we are buying, also shouting, swearing and people leaning over the wall smoking watching us get back in our car. The music was of a volume that it would be very audible in the garden of the house we wanted. I would imagine it would be impossible to have a nice relaxing summer afternoon in the garden with the children with that sort of noise so close.

Searching online, Zoopla only has previous sold prices for 5 of the house in the street of 30+ houses, does this mean that the rest, including the noisy one, are housing association? This wouldn't have bothered me, but I'm wondering if it's better or worse for this noisy house to be HA - at least if it is, we can complain about the neighbours!

Anyway, we're really disappointed by this and are considering withdrawing our offer.

What would others do in this situation?

My advice would be don't do it! Having had horrendous neighbours in the past (owner occupier growing weed, dealing cocaine at all hours of the day and night, fighting in the street and regularly knocking seven bells out of his girlfriend, all of this with their baby in the house), I would run a mile from the tiniest whiff of noise or trouble. Fortunately, I was the one renting, so had the option of moving, but he was locked up before then and hadn't returned by the time I bought my current house at the beginning of this year, so it went quiet for a bit!

My neighbours now are HA tenants and are lovely, although I still tense at the smallest bit of noise, but I'm very noise intolerant in general, and I never hear a peep from them between the hours of about 9pm and 8am.

Don't do it.

It's awful isn't it? Yesterday some people on the bowling green cheered, and I nearly had a panic attack because it sounded just like my old neighbours watching football & drinking.

I am hoping it will pass soon.

I think you should run a mile and count your lucky stars you foubd out about it before you bought the place.

The noise and anti-social behaviour alone would make me ill (I'm very intolerant of that sort of thing) but just think... if they behave like yobs on a normal day, how is it going to pan out if you have to discuss a parking or access issue? What if your kid has a disagreement with theirs? You want normal, decent neighbours who can resolve issues amicably, because if you live somewhere for 10 years, they will come up.

If you said they were having a party, and there was cheering, laughing, a bit of music, that's one thing. It could be a party for a-levels etc. But effing and blinding and staring at you getting into your car is a whole other kettle of fish.

Avoid it or at the least mention it to the sellers and ensure there is a warranty in the contract that there is no known noise problem so you can sue the pants off them if they lie.
