chain or security for UPVC front door

My DD has just figured out door handles and it's her new favourite thing. Normally we lock the front door from the inside but i was just wondering as an extra security measure, would it be possible to fit a chain of some sort or a bolt where she can't reach?
Has anyone had one of these retrofitted onto a UPVC door?

you can get a chain for a plastic door, I think ERA make it, it is bigger than for a wooden door because the material is weaker, but the same shape. To get if off, the door has to be closed, and the chain manipulated so a flat segment slips through the slot.

I doubt it would be burglar proof on a plastic door, but would confuse a small child.

However, consider fitting a cup-hook in the top corner of the frame, hinge side, where you can put the key, where it will be mostly out of vision and reach of a child or intruder, and keep the door keylocked.

But personally I would go for the concealed key-hook (don't put a great bunch of keys up there as they will be eye-catching) as a keyholder can still enter from outside.

keys should not be left in keyholes of exterior doors as there are ways of turning them from outside.

Get a sash jammer. Easy to fit, £4 from Amazon etc and put up high she won't be able to reach it. Means you can leave your door unlocked during the day too for easy opening. Also great for windows and patio doors when you need extra security.

I have a door chain fitted to my door. I have my DC trained to put it on automatically when they come in.

I wouldn't recommend leaving the door unlocked as a friend did this and somebody just walked in and it was only by luck that she walked into the lounge from the kitchen that she saw him and screamed and he ran - fortunately not taking anything so either lock your door or put the chain on.
