Would you buy an unfinished pine kitchen? How much work would it be to finish?!

I'm looking at handmade kitchen to my design, simple shaker style. It looks like a money saving thing to get an unfinished one.

Have any if you done this? Am I mad?

Seal, prime, paint... Sand between coats.

Depends how good you are at painting- I'm shit and wouldn't attempt it as I know I wouldn't be happy with the finish.

Unless you are good enough that the end result will look like it had been professionally done I think trying to save money by doing this is a false economy- it's the bit you will see all the time.

We're re painting ours. It's taking aaaAaages. But then I can only do a couple of hours each evening after the kids are in bed

Dh would paint, he has a compressor and uses an air spray thing, seals all the knots first and gets a nice finish without brush marks. All the prep takes him 3 times as long as the actual painting part.

you will want to do it outside, in a sheltered garden (out of the wind when topcoating).

I think if you get a few trestles and lay it all flat, and do back/edges/front, setting each to dry before doing the next one, you will get an assembly line going so not very wearisome.

But it will still take a lot of time.
