Letting agent disappeared with tenants deposit.

I rented out a house about 4 years ago through a letting agent who did all the references/checks etc and 'managed' the property for a year after. I now want to issue the tenants notice and it seems that the agent didn't put it in the deposit scheme like he said he had. Is there anything I can do?

definitely. And the post shows why it is so important not to get it wrong in the first place. If you have system-playing tenants you will be stuck with them for a long time.

best of luck.

I wouldn't rely on landland zone being the greatest at advice either, - seek professional legal help.

what has happened to the agent? Have they closed/gone bust or just not placed the deposit into a scheme?

I work for a lettings agent but afraid I cant give any advice. That said,we do get the odd call from people in similar situations looking for advice (and we will give it!) so perhaps call a local, reputable agent as well as consulting with a solicitor.

I second the advice to take good legal advice asap Landlord and tenant law is a minefield and if you don't get it correct and the tenants are clued up it will cost you time and money to get them out
