No rooftop aerial - ideas

Hi all,

We've just moved into a new house and there doesn't appear to be an aerial on the roof. There is an aerial point in the wall and I've plugged the TV into but no picture. Although our TV is old and we don't have a freeview box - is that why there is no picture? Having gone outside I can't see an aerial on the roof.

What would people do? We had planned to buy a new smart TV and just use freeview rather than pay for cable/sky freeview. We haven't got a new TV yet so is that why we can't get a picture? I assume without an aerial on the roof we are going to struggle to get a picture on freeview

Sorry, I went out. Smile
Yep! We have an app on there as standard that streams live TV. The normal 5 channels plus some freeview. Not all freeview though.

We are moving house soon, and I notice that the new place has no tv aerial or telephone points for wifi etc. Ive checked and there is cable to the house...so, with a new smart tv and amazon firebox..can we watch tv without aerial once we've had cable reconnected and a couple of phone points put in for wifi?..or do we still need outdoor aerial?

I've always used loft aerials, much easier to install, never damaged by weather and birds.

You do have to align them quite carefully. You can look up the compass bearing for your postcode.

Also have Virgin here. The pic is not as good as Freeview, neither is it free.

rattlesnake - you don't need an aerial if you get your TV through a cable. You need a set top box which your cable company will provide when you sign up with them (like the one you get when you sign up for Sky).

For internet you need a cable modem which again the cable company will provide if you sign up to get internet from them. You can also get your landline through the cable if you want.

In my last house I bought a rooftop digital aerial and put it in the loft attached to a rafter. did need a digital tv/smart box but it worked perfectly without having to get one on the roof.

Aerial only cost me £16.99 from amazon
