Oh my goodness, how grey is this house?

It's a fashionable colour at the moment, but that is a LOT of shades of grey (not quite 50 though).

Nice house though, I like the downstairs bedrooms and upstairs living with the amazing view. I think if it was mine it might introduce a little more colour though.

i love grey and have it in most rooms but bloody hell that house is depressing! My greys are well and truly zhuzhed up with lots of bright colours !
morris I live in Edinburgh too maybe that's where my love of grey comes from Grin

BatonRouge · 02/07/2015 22:02

We inherited a grey house - its like a submarine deck here. Every sodding wall painted bastard grey - all different hues.

MIL was worried we thought she was copying us painting her hallway grey - havnt the heart to tell her how much I detest this non-colour!

That aside that house in the op has a hideous roof.

QueefOfTheSporned · 02/07/2015 22:11

The grey is very contrived and doesn't fit with a lot of their furniture and the old kitchen units. The hall is truly awful but I do love the sunroom.

treesntrees · 02/07/2015 22:15

am I the only one who can't see any pictures

mrstweefromtweesville · 02/07/2015 22:16

I love grey and find it soothing but its somehow not right in that house. The furniture really doesn't work with it.

Writtenbyme · 02/07/2015 22:18

I like the house. I think it is topsy turvy - the bedrooms downstairs and living areas upstairs for the view.

MehsMum · 02/07/2015 22:20

That bathroom in image 14 looks like something from an high-class prison.

Wishful80sMontage · 02/07/2015 22:22

Oh wow you really wouldn't like my house :)

dairyfarmerswife · 02/07/2015 22:23

They are very strange photos, are they photoshopped? The landing in particular, the picture looks really odd, and the hall looks like it has had all of the colour taken out of it.

I am just considering painting my hall grey (from dark red). Got to try some testers first though.

Spog · 02/07/2015 22:23

horrid. they don't have much taste.

treesntrees · 02/07/2015 22:25

found them. Lovely house but wouldn't like to be overlooking a power station. It is a shame they put grey tiles in the bathroom as tiles aren't as easy to replace as the paint on walls.

Mmbop · 02/07/2015 22:32

That bathroom is like a strangely luxurious prison cell

BitterChocolate · 02/07/2015 22:33

Grin at a view of a power station. I'll have you know that is a heritage landmark (and ex-power station). It's not accidental that it's in shot, people here like seeing it. It would be impossible to have a view of Dublin Bay and not see it, plus I happen to know that if you look a little to the right of that shot, on a clear day you can see Wales. (This house is a few houses along from where my school-days boyfriend lived.)

God, it's hideous. Especially that bathroom.

I quite like the garden though.

Having hung around these threads for few years, I've been amazed at how often grey turns up as a recommended colour. Is it the new magnolia?

OwlAtEase · 03/07/2015 01:17

That is the least inviting bath I have ever seen.

ToastedOrFresh · 03/07/2015 01:36

What an ugly house. Such an obviously dressed for sale, harsh interior too. No family has ever lived there.

I can just about handle some of the décor but it's just not for me. Since when did the living room happen on the first floor of a house ?

I live in New Zealand, the majority of the two storey houses are like that. Mine isn't 'cause it's normal !

I didn't know I was on trend for décor presently ! I just picked out the wallpaper as I liked it. Little grey leaves on a pearly white background. Little grey and white mosaic tiles around the fireplace. They are better than the cold turquoise tiles that were there before. This is just the lounge/diner btw. Not the whole house !

Ooh ! I'm in fashion. I hope I remember this day !

BitOfFun · 03/07/2015 02:10

That is the real estate version of a Leonard Cohen song.

QueefOfTheSporned · 03/07/2015 04:29

I've just bought a house with the main living room upstairs. It's to maximise the views. There is also a living space downstairs. The layout definitely isn't to everyone's taste which is evidenced by the fact that the house was on the market for a very long time. I think it'll work for us though.

stargazer2030 · 03/07/2015 04:44

I am going to buck the trend and say I like it. Obviously been done like that to sell but you can change it bit by bit but brighten up with accessories until you do.

echt · 03/07/2015 06:53

Snurk at BOF's remark :o

meglet · 03/07/2015 07:11

grey has dated quite fast hasn't it.

All White would have been more classic.

Wishful80sMontage · 03/07/2015 07:37

Lol the tiles are exactly the same as the ones in my bathroom but we even had grey grouting seriously you would hate my house :)

whats4teamum · 03/07/2015 08:12

All White is really very, very dated. Colour is back.

senua · 03/07/2015 09:23

I agree it looks photo-shopped. The colours 'pop' in an unnatural way.
Not my taste at all.

NoRockandRollFun · 03/07/2015 09:29

Looks like the estate agents have done some shizz with the pictures to increase the saturation of the primary colours in each room, making the background look various shades of grey to contrast. Prob looks better IRL, house looks professionally dressed, quite annoying I find as you can't really tell how people live in these places.
