Talk to me about built-in fridges!

Our fridge is knackered. The seals are gone, the door swings open randomly, and it leaks water all over the floor. With summer coming it's imperative to replace it before we all die of food poisoning and out relatives inherit a massive electric bill.
Only it's not that easy, is it?

There seem to be two sorts of built-in fridges: sliders, and door-on-door. Ours is neither. Confused
The unit has a hinged door, the fridge door is then attached to this door, and is totally separate from the fridge itself. Not a standard door-on-door which just seems to attach the panel to the fridge door, which in turn has super strong hinges.

So what am I googling for, and does it even matter? Is it easy to change the style of fridge seeing as we have a front panel anyway? Would we just need to change the hinges/ fittings?

Thank you!

When I had my new kitchen I looked at built in fridges obsessively Blush.
There were two sorts; ones that are like any other fridge but that sit in a frame and the matching door attaches to the fridge door.
And proper built in a with a door that is integral. Really lovely but ££.

I went for the first, cheaper, one but TBH it was the biggest I could find and it's still too small. I'd probably choose a stand alone next time.

I would rather have stand alone but unfortunately it's not an option. The fridge is under the oven and a stand alone would stick out too far. Sad

It's in an unusual position ?! Normally an integrated built under fridge would be 600mm wide - sitting between other carcase's not in one itself .... if it's under an oven that suggests that yours might be a built in fridge set at a lower height ... ( ie one that sits in a carcase not between them )
Best to look at the overall height and width particularly when looking for a replacement product ! The good news is that you should be able to use the furniture door on an integrated one though ! So it won't spoil the look of your kitchen ! Smile

Yes, it sits in it's own carcass and is 54 x 102.
The oven is one of those piddly oven-combined-with-microwave things which doesn't take two cake tins at once. Grrrr.
So far I'm looking at an Ikea one which is 87 cm high, but only €160 euros. I'm thinking I can use the spare 15cm as a skinny shelf for my making trays.
So far I can't find one at 102 cms for under €400, plus they all seen to be the sliding door system.
