HELP. Does anyone know anything about electric showers?

Think the solenoid may have gone as it was slightly dripping cold water yesterday even when the electric was cut off. Today, after dh used it, it was gushing water and wouldn't stop. We frantically searched for any cut off valves but due to dodgy plumbing by the previous owner there doesn't appear to be a way to isolate the water supply.

After half an hour of gushing there was a click in the shower unit and the water stopped. Does this mean that the solenoid may have kicked in and is now working? Ds has ASD and needs a shower but hates baths Sad I wondering whether I can risk turning the shower on in case it doesn't stop again.

Any advice/experience would be helpful. Thanks

I'm afraid my electric showers only last 18 months or so. It sounds like what mine do when they break Sad . The element gets so encrusted with scale it basically goes pop and that's the end of it.

We live in a dreadful hard water area and it kills any make or standard of shower. I stick to cheap ones now.

i would not be tempted to even try it..... if the heater unit has gone there could be an unfortunate mixing of electricity and water

I'd get the fuse out/off and replace the whole thing. ....Argos and tesco direct have very reasonable priced showers ime.
